Heat Wave Out of Hood Vent

I've searched for this for awhile and I haven't come up with anything. So forgive me if this is already out there.

At a stop I notice my 03 Evo VIII has "heat wave" appearance coming out of the hood vent. The temp gauge is reading normal. This happens no matter if I'm driving hard or normal. Is this something I need to worry about or is this normal.

Mods:
Hallman boost controller set for 20psi
Perrin dp
Tsudo cbe
k&n intake

Thanks for any info on this.

Your engine will get hot when it gets up to operating temperature. The hood vent is there to release this heat rather than cook everything under the hood. Simply normal.

To reduce the heat wave you could have your exhaust manifold coated to retain heat.

Thanks for the replies! Sometimes I get paranoid about these things. Now I can sleep at night.

Haha I love how you refer to it as the "heat wave" I love seeing the waves of heat escaping out of my hood btw

Just be glad we have the hood vent so all that heat isn't trapped inside the engine bay! Getting your exhaust manifold coated really does help lower underhood temps though.

if you look at other cars you can notice it too on a hot summer day.
Just more pronounced in the evo with the hood vent and they get a little hott cuz the turbo

people always comment about that when in my evo.
