Yesterday when I first got on the boost there was a noise that I have never heard before. A whistling noise only when I am in boost. My car has about 47k miles on it and it does not seam like I have lost any power. Any idea what it could be? Have not checked the piping for a leak yet, I was planing on doing that this weekend.

 

My turbo makes a whistle noise during spool. What type of turbo do you have?

 

A good idea would be to post audio/video so we can get a better understanding of when this is happening and what it sounds like.

 

boost leak or turbo is on its way out. check it for shaft play

Stock IX Turbo with 47k. I have been boosting 29+ LBS for the last 7k miles or 4 months.

 

yep, either a boost leak or turbo is gonna say bye bye soon

 

I'd be surprised if it is the turbo, unless there has been abuse (are you the first owner?) or if it is just a dud. However if it is the turbo that pretty much forces you to upgrade!

 

Mine makes a whine when I'm boosting over 33lbs. Its the shaft telling you to **** off. check and see if you are overboosting becuse you may be going over 29lbs. lmk

Boost leak test would be a good idea

 

This may seem weird, but my buddy had a pin size hole in his intake pipe and whenever he would boost it made a really loud whistle sound. It could be that as well, but it's best to check the shaft play and do a boost leak test.

 

My turbo does that in my Fiat Coupe from time to time... except it sounds like a quiet horn honking lol. I don't have any power loss either... But it usually does it while I'm on the Autostrada when i slightly accelerate.
I know, wrong car... But it sounds like mine might be doing something similar
