Rebuilding Tcase?
Rebuilding Tcase?
I've searched up alot and came back with nothing. Curious if anyone has ever rebuilt a Tcase on their own?
Just found out I've been having that damn deathwhine. Was curious what that noise was. Til I searched it up last week.
I already have my Tcase out of the car. Pulled it apart and noticed I get this wierd noise spinning the pinion. And its not so free either. I have a good amount of tools at home so I decided to pull the bolt off the pinion with a vice holding the splines and a giant crescent to take the bolt off but that's as far as I have gotten. I took a look at it and it seems that I just gotta press it out but... it wont budge. I'm using a bearing press. Curious if there is any trick to it... Because I've put alot of weight to that thing but... nothing what so ever. Please let me know.

Are you just replacing the Ring and Pinion/Pinion bearings? If so...would you mind taking pics step by step?

We'll I'll see what pictures I can put up. But its either that damn thing is stubborn or what, cause I can't get it to budge one bit. Tried letting it sit there with some pb blaster. thought something might've got lodged in and made it stuck but still... nothing. I'll post some pictures of what I've done so far. If anyone can help, please, I wouldn't mind it.

The whine comes from chips or excessive wear on the ring and pinion gears, usually the ring gear is the problem. You can replace the ring gear fairly easily, but really you should replace the ring and the pinion as a pair. The art is shimming the pinion to have the proper tooth engagement with the ring gear, I leave that up to the pros AKA shepp.
If you put an output axle in the transfercase when it is out of the car it will make a clicking noise when you turn the axle, I think that is no problem I tested 3 transfer cases at the shop last night and all three of them made the same clicking noise.
I would recommend opening up the T-case and inspecting the ring gear. On the non-acd t-case it is very easy, just remove the bolts holding on the cover that the fiil hole in it. Then gently separate the cover with a screwdriver, pick up the "diff" housing in side, and the ring gear is bolted to that. Look for chips or excessive wear. Rub your finger nail down the teeth and check for groves etc.
For ACD T-cases it is a little more difficult because there is the clutches in there for the ACD. I have not successfully taken apart and put together a ACD t-case so Ill leave that to someone else to explain.
