3rd gear issue.. trying to fix today

before my clutch went out i had no grinds in gears except in 5th (sometimes). i was running OEM fluid on my modified car and had no problems. clutch went out replaced it with a single plate from my twin plate and now 3rd gear grinds, and 5th also.

i thought possibly the clutch needed to be adjusted higher as it was really low so i did so and it still grinds. could be synchros to those gears but its weird that they just went out , out of no where and now its notchy/grinds.

no issue getting it into the gears with car on while not moving. when moving if i shift 2nd-3rd it will grind/quick engagement noise same with 5th. whats weird is sometimes it doesnt do it but 95% of the time it will make that noise. if i go 2nd to neutral real quick then 3rd it wont grind.

anyone know what it is?
i was going to buy penzoil syncromesh and lucas 75w-90 gear oil and change out the oem to see if this works...

I have the 3rd gear grind and didnt have it until after I installed my exedy twin plate..... If you go into 3rd slow and easy it will not grind, but if you try to go in quick it grinds.. its not really a grinding noise tho, its more of a quick clunk/buzz right? As for the 5th gear, I have not experienced any grinding from that gear.

Things ive experienced: I took the car on backroads in country and went nuts with adjusting the pedal in/out, etc.. the further in you go the more difficult the transmissions gonna shift due to the engagement being shorter, and the further out its going to put more stress on the entire operation. You want your pedal to grab right in the middle of the travel, not lower or higher..

Also, this would be a huge coincidence, but if you're as stupid as me, you forgot to put the nut on the rear tranny/engine mount and the bolt vibrated off and left you with no support to the rear of tranny/engine. My car was shifting/driving like total crap and turns out I had no bolt or nut holding the mount on the back, which is a major mount...... Im lucky I did not damage anything.

Im using Amsoil, what are you using? if you try the penzoil and your problem goes away please let me know! I will switch straight to penzoil if thats the case.

thanks still not sure what the problem is. i used the pennzoil and nothing changed. since the week i put it in i changed tranny fluid 5 days later and there was 2 teeth on my magnet with alot of metal shavings. really have no clue whats going on since it wasnt like that b4 i changed the clutch..

could my mounts be going bad?

the night the clutch was changed 3rd and 5th grinded & when i went to make a 3 point turn i stopped. went to put the car in reverse and couldnt find it. so i went to put it in 1st then reverse and it locked out of 1st gear. tried N to 1st, N to 1st and it finally went in. seems like the gears werent lining up or something? another night i came to a light and if i pull the shifter all the way left in neutral and try to go up in to 1st it will lock out. but if i bring it over normally it goes right in to 1st. if i go 2nd to N to 3rd, 3rd wont grind at all...

Just ran across that someone had twisted their shifter cable when reinstalling it back on their transmission. Just for ****s in giggles you might want to check it?

did you adjust your pedal height when you changed your clutch? could be a place to check.
