Bad clutch or Bad wastegate?

Hey guys, recently I came back from vacation and started driving my car more then I usually would. For about 4 months now my car has been acting strange, one day it would have all the symptoms of a slipping clutch ( RPMs would jump when i foor it) and other days it would be fine. The clutch slipping problem only happens in 3rd-4th gear so Im not even sure if it is the clutch. Another Problem that I just noticed yesterday is, when I floor it I barely hit any boost, the meter would go up to .5 and then just drop down real fast.

I was gonna replace the clutch and get a new flywheel but then I started thinking about the boost problem and don't wanna blow 1500 and then find out the clutch wasn't the problem. I have no shop within 150 miles to go and get the car looked at so my best bet is the nearest "dealership".

If any of you guys know what the real problem is or had the same problem I would appreciate it if you'd tell me how you went about fixing this, thanks

Sounds like you might have multiple problems but my belief is the clutch is definitely bad. 3rd or 4th gears you have higher loads and asking the clutch to hold more than lower gears. (mechanical advantage do to lower gearing). if the clutch is slipping you won't build as much boost do to free revving the motor. Kinda like trying to build boost on the 2 step rpm vs. loaded against the inertia of moving the car at the same rpm.

Let us know where you live or where the car is located and I'm sure someone can recommend a reputable shop. Depending on where you are in KY, I know of an excellent shop in Clarksville, TN (just across the border from Hopkinsville, KY)

Thanks jme, I had a feeling that the clutch was going out when it started to slip but wasnt sure if the boost problem was related or a whole different problem. I live in Bowling Green,KY which is pretty much in the middle of no where :-/

Yeah I've been to Bowling Green several times, been to Beach Bend and by the vette museum. Middle of nowhere but with some cool stuff!

If you are willing to make the drive down to Clarksville, TN there is a shop called Modified Import Repair that has always taken excellent care of me. The owner is named Thomas and he can fix anything to do with Evo's/DSM's as well as most other makes of cars. He's the one that put the twin disc in my 05 Evo as well as rebuilding the motor and helping me find some excellent parts to suit my needs. The number to the shop is 931-645-9007. Give him a call and see what he says. I hope this helps you out.

When I'm in 5th gear and floor it, it would jump about 1k RPM and then go back to where it was unless I keep my foot on the gas then its like a power surge and just keeps going.
