2.2 engine and FP Red - what boost should I run ?

Guys, need advice, I got evo 8, 2.2L engine, carillo rod, JE pistons, power division 272 cams and FP red, big intercooler. Compression ration 8.0.

So the question is what maximum boost should I run on this car on 98ron fuel??

get a tune from your nearest tuner and ask what psi should you be running via SAFE that is or if you want to go more aggressive let them know! i am sure they can point you in a right direction

we are seeing 25-26psi as no problem. with the 8.0 compression you should be able to push 27-28psi. but every car is different. some excel with low octane and others dont.

Thanks a lot for the reply. What sort of HP / quarter mile are you getting, approximately ?

At that boost level on a stock compression Evo, you'd be in the 430whp range typically. I am going on a limb here, but I would be willing to wager that the offset of displacement to compression should make it about even. You might be able to squeeze a little more boost even. At 430whp we normally see low 11s (11.2-11.3) and 122-124mph traps.

Take it to a dyno and have the tuner tune it for the maximum without knock and then dial it down 1-3 PSI for extra margin. Every engine is different, I was running 30lbs on 93 octane and meth, my friends car with a similiar setup was only running 26.... Simply have them tune it for zero knock count, then dial it down 1-3 PSI and your good to go.

One upgrade that i don't know if enough people do but I recommend it is a C.O.P ignition...

there is no magic chart where you give us motor and turbo specs and we give you a designated psi level to run

like others said...get it tuned and see what the motor will allow...safely

i was told and from what i have read COP is only needed for car at or over 600 hp. Under it is kind of pointless. I would think you can get the hks dII for this application

anyone tried this? i have it on a totaly stock ignition system with an AEM. making over 600whp and never a hicup. it cheap and its adjustable. check it out..... it think i paid about $220 for it. also check out the boost a pump. same thing for your fuel pump. i was going to use one but i decided to go with a twin 255 setup.

thanks a lot for your thoughts, eventualy it was tuned to 1.8 bar of boost or 27 psi, which was enough for this moment.

My car was missing a little at 30PSI on 93 and meth... Once I put the COP on it, all issues went away and it was on to happy boosting

Ignition to me is like fuel, just one of those things were it's always there and it will never hurt to have it. Better Spark Equates to more power same with the fuel higher octane, more power

I did run the HKS system but had a problem with the setup, switched to COP and no issues but my car was around the 600 crank horse power. You could also run the spark tech street cop which is alittle less agressive. Having a better spark is definetly not going to hurt you, no one needs an FP RED or built engine, if your spending the money, might as well do it right!
