Unhappy RPM fails/failed to read car = dead

Let me get right down to what happened.

I was on the highway, downshifted to 4th (so it went up to about 4k or so RPMs)

Changed lanes, looked at my gauge cluster saw 0 RPM's, speedo and everything else worked though. Naturally gave it gas and, of course, the car had no power.

Pulled over and it turns over but doesn't fire up. Got it to my house and I looked at it today and it's pumping fuel in but no spark it seems. My guess is that it's a sensor and my question is what sensor does the Evo read RPM from?

I log my car constantly so at the point of failure I have logs and they look like this in this order of cycles.

RPM

3531.25

RPM and ignition events are derived from the crank sensor signal. Check the integrity of the wiring first. If that looks fine, you'll need to replace the sensor.

cam angle sensor. i bet. My car as matter of fact just did pretty much the same thing. Just about home and the car all of a sudden died. Itll turn over but wont fire.

Start looking around and un plug the cam angle sensor and its still doing the same thing. It shouldnt do anything with out that sensor in.

Ill tell ya anyway once I get a new one in.
