AEM Tru Boost Big Turbo Guys Using the 5 Bar External Sensor, Questions Please???

Hi Guys-

We are finally starting to tune my car and I have the AEM Tru Boost with 5 Bar Upgrade External Sensor.. I'm running a GT35r with all supporting mods including a tial 44mm external wastegate.. The target boost I want right now is around ~26psi .. So obviously I want to hold that value all the way to redline without any spikes and taper.

Please Post up your Boost Setting A and/or B (% percentage duty cycle) and what you have your Spring Pressure (SPR) some times called Waste Gate Crack Pressure (gAE) at.. Some people are having luck with setting this value closer to ~3 .. Others higher to their wastegate spring (which would be closer to 20 psi in my case since that is what kind of spring my Tial 44 has in it).

Thanks so much guys!!!!

The best way would be through trial-n-error. Every application is different and the results will not be the same.
The best way to set the gAE is through testing. Start with the lowest setting and keep raisng the value untill you have the best response without boost spiking. I've seen one application work great with a value of 5 and another with 10. That value depends mainly on the actual WG spring rate and the response of the turbo.

Yeah, I figured this would be the best way.. It is just kind of a PITA on the street when I am having to open up that dump tube at high boost levels like that on a 35r HTA fp turbo.. So you are saying that the value shouldn't be up there with my wastegate spring (20psi spring in tial 44mm)? I had it initially at 2 and the car was running great with that.. but some one hinted to me that I need to raise that value up to like within 3 psi of my peak boost pressure .. so for instance, if i was at 26psi peak boost, then i would need to set it at 23psi on the gAE setting.. Please let me know, thank you man..

Also, any one else with experience that can give me an example of their current settings, that would be great.. along with the "A" and "B" boost setting duty cycle % percentage. Mine is set to A40 (%) right now and the gAE is at 4.0 and it seemed to spike 29psi and taper to 26.. This is also the 5 bar sensor keep in mind. thanks

bump.. this thing is REALLY frustrating.. Has any one with a 35r type setup even been able to tune this thing and make it so it is consistent and actually holds the boost all the way to redline? this is ridiculous i pay this much for a boost controller/gauge and it can't even be consistent and work correctly

My numbers are totally different, I'm running 33psi, with a 1.4bar wastegate spring, crack pressure is 19.5, boost A is 44, and boost pressure B is 45. I have air/water intercooler and 46" less intercooler piping. You just have to take your time and make small adjustments.

I am not running high boost I am still on stock turbo. My crack pressure is set somewhere around 10 and the duty cycle is at 57. This gives me a spike o 21 but I hold around 18-19 psi until the ix turbo runs outo breath. Hope this helps, from what I read its trial and error every car is gonna be different.

Thanks so much for your input .. So it looks like you have the same waste gate spring as me and is it a Tial 44mm?? Does your boost spike higher than 33psi and do you actually hold 33 psi consistently once you hit it or does the boost taper a lot? Also, I'm assuming you have the 5 bar upgrade so you are using the External sensor since the tru boost can only handle 29psi max on the 3bar stock. Thanks a lot!!!

Thanks so much for your input as well sir.. I have been doing nothing but reading people's experiences and it sure does seem like every one's car is so much different.. Some people will try to keep the crack pressure or spr value lower because they have crazy spikes with it higher, but others keep it right around where you keep it.. so confusing and weird.. thanks so much though!!!

yeah I did.. he said any where from 5-10psi.. I started with 19.5psi and went to 20.5 psi and it is A LOT better now! I am going to continue to tune it and mess with the adjustments.. I just wanted to see other peoples setups and what they were doing so I wasn't WAY off or something.. Every setup is different .
