Is 29 psi on a fp red with supporting mods, and built longblock safe on 93 pump gas, no meth? Also I have the forge rs bov and i get surging even though I switched to the 80mm cover. What bov will eleminate that issue, if their is one?

I'm pretty sure you can tune a fp red to run 30psi on a stock block on 93oct....

im also interested to see what ppls opinions on this are .

im planning on running similar boost on my 35R 2L combo . Its on Australian 98RON fuel but im pretty sure its similar to your 93octane level .

Ive heard of ppl putting alot more with meth injection but not to many without .

It all depends on the tune. I am running 27 psi on 91 octane with BBK full. Stock long block. But with enough detonation or overall bad tune, even 20 psi can be fatal.

exactly what he said !! the tune is what it all comes down to , if they know what they're doing pump gas and 28 - 30psi should be a problem as a street car !

I think im gonna stick to 29psi or so until i get meth injection , then bump it all up again ! Also it depends what other mods you've got to . If you have more breathing mods, say bigger intake manifold and throttle body it will allow u to run the same boost much safer than the stock items !!

Why are you running more than 29 psi with the fp red on pump gas only?

im not running a red, im running a 35R . also i havnt had my final tune yet, im still running my engine in atm .

i dont think its unsafe with a fully built engine with all the required mods to let the engine breath as well as it can which i have done all . It all depends on the tune though really !

and if you can do it and theres gains to be had, then why not ??

Is it safe yes in theory it is....but I would be worried about buying bad gas. We were both tuned by the same guy and I was tuned for 28psi but I will only hit 26 max just incase I get crap gas. Leave the big boost for meth and or race gas.

That depends on your setup though . a bigger turbo and a engine that has had everything done to it (valves, big cams, raceporting, intake mani, throttle body etc) to make the engine breath well will have higher limitations that one that is not . That said, it may the same level of safeness for a well setup Red combo to run 28psi all day and still have alot of room to move with boost and timing levels .

Is it safe? That depends what one defines as "safe".

Should it be expected to run for awhile? Yes, assuming the engine is in good condition and no detonation is evident.

Should one hedge a bet that it won't break? The smart money stays on the sidelines. This forum is littered with broken factory parts from otherwise healthy motors as a result of upgrading the power to substantial levels. Just keep in mind that it always costs less to upgrade a good shortblock than to replace one that is grenaded.

The bottom line? There are no guarantees. One takes his chances. As they say, expect the worst and hope for the best.

Whats your max boost you hit in 4th and 5th gear. I am going to leave my boost at 26-27 psi as told by jimmy my builder. To keep things safe.

Junior tuned me to 28psi and I only allow myself to hit max 26psi. Like I said I'll save the big boost for race fuel or meth. I mean if you think about it I'm faster then 97% of the cars on the road they I see everyday.....why push it. I don't have the funds for a engine build. Beside I think pushing the Red in the 30psi range on pump is very scary to think of. Most of the time like now I ride at about 22-24psi just for DD fast enough.

If you had a built motor, what boost would you run the red at on pump gas.
