i'm going to have a local friend check it out for anything abnormal. i am due for awd service in about another 2k miles

 

I launched the car last week with a little wheel hop and nothing happened then and for no reason it just started to sound like this last night. I only hear it in 5th gear (no other gears) just cruising or during decel.

Has anyone really confirmed if this is caused due a bad TC or just normal.

Mine makes the same sound. Only during cruise or decel, it goes away in acceleration.

I put the car on jack stands while giving it gas and it seems to be coming from the transmission. It was hard to tell because there was no load on the car when lifted. The transfer case did not make any noise. But using a screwdriver as a stethoscope medium, it seems to be coming from the transmission. I think it might be the TOB but I am not certain.

I will find out this weekend since I'm changing the clutch and putting in shep trans.

 

Aww... This piece of crap is weak. Stock clutch car making 320whp and never dig launched it only a few roll launches with all 4 wheels spinning.

 

no it just needs maintained really well... you need to keep changing fluids every 15k or so.... im making 451wtq and mines fine and i launched 10 times so far and when i launch i spin so hard it smacks against the rev limiter.

TC is the weakest link tho in entire drivetrain of evo.....

 

Let us know if you still hear the sound after changing the clutch and trans.

 

You're a luck camper if its not the t-case cuz I just dropped a sht load on that sucker. I had an 03 and I went with an 04 tcase w/lsd so it was a good turn out in the end but i dropped $$$$

 

Update!

I just drained the Tcase fluid last night and it was completely black and full of metal flakes.

Conclusion: TCASE is toast
