Load pop heard on canyon run

I was taking a canyon run tonight down los flores. I took a left hand turn pretty quick and heard a loud pop come from the right back side. I stopped the car and checked the tires but they were all ok, and there werent any metal parts in the road. I drove over some speed bumps by my house no noises and took the last two turns by my house fast and the car was normal. Any ideas as to why it would do this? I think I either hit something in the road or the car back fired.

were you shifting hard? could have been the differential bang

(edit: not just shifting hard will make the sound, but not shifting hard "correctly")

hmm, ill leave this one up to the experts. best guess thus far is a rock or something bounced up and hit the undercarriage (making an unusually loud bang)?

It's almost impossible for you car to back-fire if you have a catlytic converter. Considering all the road construction and debris on Las Flores I'd go with the rock theory.

Is that bang bad? What is the proper way of shifting hard?

When you shift HARD and release the clutch very quickly, you will get a slight "bump" sound from the diff. Think of it like if you had another 150hp, you'd probably break traction at 3/4 corners.

Are you sure about this, I'll be the first to admit that I know nothing about what really causes back-fire, but my SVT Focus use to back fire all the time, or at least made the sound like back-firing. If he was laying on the brakes heavy, that means he most likely (and hopefully) took his foot of the gas, which would cause the engine to wind down, sending a lot of exhaust out the pipe.

As I said, I'm basically auto-technically illeterate, but it doesn't make sense that modern cars can't back fire, especially with bad gas.

Re: Load pop heard on canyon run

Same thing has happened to me 2 times, I think it's a sway bar poping or something, I never does it on the track and I don't think it's a rock because it only does it when you turn really sharp. Same thing when I pull in my drive way sometime I will hear a little noise back there.

It was just your rear end breaking apart because of the rust. No big deal.

Wow. I thought I was the onely one. I have a cusco sway bar and time to time I will hear a loud popping sound, but never at the track. Maybe it has to do with turning and going of a bump. By the sway the sway is not loose or installed uncorrectly.

is just the lug wrench bouncing against the trunk floor

Mine does this too. It is just the cream colored bag with the lug wrench and jack handle in it hitting the cardboard trunk floor. It is the only think in the trunk not bolted down. I took mine out and went for a ride on same road and no bang. Put it back in and bang. It only does it on certain turns and G-loads.

Chad.
