On my evo ix I had to take the half shaft out of the tranny on the drivers side. Before you take the half shaft out put a bolt back in the tranny to hold it up or the tranny will just fall. I am guessing that you are trying to take the tranny out. Evomoto has a how to but I can't remember if its for a evo 8 or 9. Hope this is some help.

Maybe on an 8 you have to pull the passenger side as well but on the 9 I only had to pull the drivers side. FYI if you don't have a side hammer go and get one before you try and pull it out it will save you a lot of time and trouble.

oh and good luck getting the tc out of the car with the motor and the tranny still in. i think you either have to remove front subframe or move the engine foward in the engine bay to squeeze it out. just be prepared.
i think theres also an article on just removing the tc in the how to section if you search there

if you have both axles out, and it's just stuck, if you put one hand on the drive shaft and one hand on the tcase, you can get quite a bit of extra leverage to wiggle it free. Up down, left right, it should come out.

It's easy getting out the TC. I took out both half shafts(with a slide hammer). Undo the bolts that hold it on the tranny (I think it is 6 of them. 3 up top and 3 on the bottom). Take off the tail housing on the back of the TC. Slide the TC out of the way and put one bolt back in the tranny (I did the bottom bolt near the fire wall). Get a wrachet strap hook it to that bolt and hook it the front bolt that holds the center cross member(I think that is what it is called) Now wrachet it pulling the motor froward make sure you have someone holding the tc it will fall out. Their you have your TC out.
