I see your thinking but don't the heat of the Turbo break down the viscosity??? If what you are saying is that thinner oil is better for a Turbo, then why are most engine builders running 15 or 20w-50??? Why are they not pushing 0w-20???

I had always ran 5w-30 then I switched to SSO 0w-30, then to Dominator 10-30, and now that I have the FP Red, I switched to 10w-40 and it take a while to heat up. Now, my car feels like it don't want to go, untill it is warmed up.

When I talked to a rep at Amsoil they told me to run Dominator 5w-20

we are still in the 80s train of thought

where engine builders and mechanics still think that thicker is better for safety, back in the day engine oils needed to be thick because the manufacturers toleranced their engine sloppy as heck when i say sloppy i dont mean BAD i mean LOOSE, where today's mesurements range in the .002-.004 and back in the day was in some case double if no tripple that , bigger the tolerance the thicker the oil RIGHT because you dont want oil passing by the rings and you need the extra thickness to take up the slop between the crank and that bearing, the oil creates that cushion needed.

with todays engines being blueprinted with tight numbers and oils being alot better than yesterdays by only using synthetics there is no need of that thicker oil, alot of people have not caught up and it makes them feel comfortable to reccomend a thicker oil also because the clients are asking for it so ussualy they just give what the clients want affraid to loosing them.

Mark my words in about 5-10 years people will start realizing that thick oil is thing of the past,,,, thats if we still have gas engines that require oil.

iam not saying to use 0W20 or 5W20 in an Evo 8-9, although i bet you a full oil change that if you put
0W20 in your evo and road raced it and came back and drainned it and ran analysis your engine would be fine, you might loose some oil on high boost.

Mobil 1 0W-30. Over 400HP/FT LBS. E85, stock turbo, Kelford 272s.
However, I cant say much on how good the oil is. I've only done 2 oil changes to date. 4900 miles :-(

on the Evo 8 and 9 for this cold winter comming up an 0W30 or 5W30 would suite, for any summer temps 10W30 would be fine, and if you are running high horsepower high boost and hot fuels with a built engine 10W40.

Keep in mind my reccomendations are based on Fully 100% synthetics, non of that hybride, blend junk

For EvoX mildly moded, 0W30 SSO all the way, if you want to beat on the car a little more moded 5W30, SEE BELOW

Spring/Summer - AMSOIL Dominator 15w-50
Fall/Winter - AMSOIL Dominator 5w-20

Forget power for a moment, consider the wear or build of your motor. In my case, I have a fresh built motor and the 10w-30 I was using in the summer wasn't thick enough per my dipstick post build.

I used to use Motul 300v and it was great, heck it even smelled like bubble gum and managed to work really well. However, due to cost and availability, I decided to use what I had used in track cars prior, Amsoil, and haven't looked back. the Dominator series is impressive.

I still use stock oil filters as aftermarket brands have presented fitment issues on my MR.

Actually, from a oil flow standpoint apagan01 is correct.
