Hey subaruwrx420 do you mind sharing on here what are your thoughts on this oil, if you have any.

I also have been using SSO 0W-30 for probably a year or so now, from summer to winter.

Don't have anything bad to say about it thus far. I don't have any oil analysis to share, but I have been using longer drain intervals than Mobil1 and the oil still comes out cleaner.

I have also been running E85 the last couple months or so at 30psi on the stock turbo. Everything is still fine. Seeing the TBN of this oil and the oil analyses of a few other users, I can't see why anyone wouldn't want to use this oil in a stock clearanced motor.

I've been contemplating on switching to the diesel formulation to run with the E85, but for now I am sticking with the SSO 0W-30.

I just sent an oil analysis sample to Blackstone Labs and also paid for the TBN. I became interested generally in 0W30 oils after reading the benefits upon engine start-up. The Amsoil also has high a HTHS rating, similar to Redline and German Castrol.

The analysis is for the S14, so it's not a good comparison. However, I can still share the results. I'm running the stock KA24DE with a Garrett 50 trim at 12psi. The short block has 170,000 and the heads have 50,000. I'm curious to see how the oil holds up to the ridiculously rich tune from the ROM tuned ECU. The car also leaks/consumes about a 1.5 qts between the 3,000 mile change intervals. I've been using the Amsoil for a year, so I think it's a good time to conduct the analysis.

Sorry for the long response...

For the built motor guys what engine oil do you use in the winter?

Summer I am using valvoline vr-1 20w50 which is an amazing oil but I think it's a bit on the thick side.
Amsoil guys don't drive us nuts on how good the amsoil oil is. On my stok block I was using amsoil too, but now I have a built motor with less than 3000 which typically the limit to change from a non synthetic to a syntheti. If you want of course...

I am thinking on getting the castrol gtx 10w40 and go back to the vr-1 in march...

Opinions?

I follow what my owner manual says since my Evo is stock. Which says in the oil viscosity section, to run 10W-30. If below 0*, run 5W-30.

Iam would think you are using Dominator 5W20 wich has a great capacity of film streght,,, you see people like you are the ones who prove to our community that there is no need for thick oil's because they only harm you in the long run with lubrication problems/wear and in the short run because they rob you of power.

Alot of people havent learned yet that todays technology has provided for thinner oils with same or better lubrication capabilities than yesterdays.

I'm not going to tell you what type of oil to run but I would think that a 10w-30 synthetic should be good for your evo. I ran the Amsoil SS 0W-30 and the car was fine from last July up until a few months ago then I switch to the 10W-30 Dominator only cause I took the evo to Florida for 2+ weeks and i was supposed to run my brother-in-laws 09' M3 and his 09' Nissan GTR (killed both cars btw ) The only downside about the Dominator oil is it doesn't have a long oil change interval I have just about 3k on it so I'm going to get it analyzed and see if I could have gone longer with it. I was pushing 26psi in Florida and when I came home I've been pushing 28psi. For my type of driving this time of year the SS 0W-30 is the best I can get matched with a Wix filter(filters down to 10 Microns vs standard oil filters 15 Microns). I'm not really pushing the car more then 15psi just to commute back and forth to work and in the summer during track season then Dominator all the way

Quick question to you apagon01 we have been seeing record low temps here in the North East I think it was 15 degrees this morning when I left for work. So my question to you is running SS 0W-30 too thin for my horsepower and tq? Should I run ATM 10W-30? My fear is I occationally have a real heavy foot.....but I ran SS in the peak of the summer when the temps were 90+ and ran her on the track too.

SSO is a great choice for you in this cold winter, it has a pour point of -60 F and a flash point of 446 F.

let me know if i confused you more than what i helped.

Reading Comprehension is my friend basically anything colder then -60 the oil will freeze or should I say become hard and the oil will begin to boil or burn with temps over 446. Could you share the pour point and flash point on ATM 10W-30 and RD30? Thanks
