When some of you guys decide to switch from a 50 to a 20, make sure you monitor the load cells your car hits. Some of them will change...

i like you, you get it quick

ATM 10W30 flashes at 439 F, and it pours at -54 F

RD 10W30 flashes at 453 F, and it pours at -44 F

SSO 0W30 flashes at 446 F, and pours at -60 F

I like Amsoil SSO 0w-30 or HDD 5w-30 for fall through spring. In the summer I will run AMO 10w-40

As promised here are the results of the SSO 0W30 in my S14...I know this is an Evo forum and I will post those results in the near future.

The car consumes about 1-1.5 qts per 3,000 mile interval; however, I think most of that is actually leaking via the front and rear main seals and possibly the oil pan. I have been running Amsoil Signature Series 0W30 for a full year now. I was mostly concerned about the strong fuel smell when I checked the dipstick. Results seem pretty good overall.

At the the time the oil sample was taken I did a compression test that surprisingly yielded 190 dead even on all 4 cylinders. It was done using an old AutoZone-type compression tester with a baterry charger hooked up, fuel pump relay was unpluged, throttle was at 100%, and the car was turned over about 5 times.

The car has not been autocrossed, raced, or abused really since I have owned it for nearly 2 years ops: However, I do the ocassional pull on the highway and take full advantage of every on/off ramp. Otherwise, the car spends most of it's days parked.

Their comment on not bringing the oil up to temp is actually unfounded as I drove the car on the highway for about 40 minutes prior to taking the sample. I think the fuel dilution is due to the overly rich tune of the ECU. I don't think there's a leaky injector...and all the plugs looked even when I changed them as well.

Relevant mods:
- stock 170,000 miles short block
- stock 50,000 miles head
- 248/248 S13 cams
- Leone custom tubular exhaust manifold
- 50 trim w/.63 ar at 12psi
- 550 RX7 injectors
- S13 Enthalpy ECU w/adapter harness
- all other supporting mods

Very good report, and very nice for a high milleage motor.

that SSO is doing its job at maintaining the TBN super high even when you are fuel diluting it.

I'm currently running 15w-50 RD Amsoil and thinking about switching down to a 5w-50 (not sure what brand) synthetic, but not sure if there is a real benefit or worth switching due to the very cold temps we are seeing up here in NY. What do the oil gurus advise?
