Help Diagnosing

Alright here's the skinny..

CT:
Cylinder 1: 155
Cylinder 2: 145
Cylinder 3: 150
Cylinder 4: 50~65...

I have talked to Greg and GSC Motorsports and he seems to think that it is a cracked piston. Odd thing is the car still runs decent and its not making any noise.

Its burning a ton of oil, I have to top it off every 3 days of driving because it gets really low on the dipstick.

I do not have a bore scope and i broke a hose on my leakdown tester.

I'm just looking for a second opinion before I tear into the engine, which is costly and I really dont have much free time or space

doesn't sound like you really have any other options right now other than tearing it down. sounds like it is the piston or the rings though so you are on the right track, you'd hear it for sure if it were a valve issue.

Do a leakdown test so you at least know whats causing the problem.

put a little oil in the cylinder and redo compression test. if it goes up, the rings are bad. if not, get a leakdown tester. or just shine a flashlight to see if there are any cracks on top.

Im thinking about hooking up the hose off of my CT'er and using a airline to get some pressure in the cylinder. I can do that tomorrow.

Greg at GSC says that I should go with the SuperTech 9.5:1 pistons.. I am on std bore with an FP red and stock valvetrain. I'm not looking to make crazy horsepower. The most this car will ever see is 550whp way down the road from now so I think I should be safe with these pistons.

What do you guys think? Good choice or should I get something different if Im planning on making good boost at some point

As far as the problem goes, and I have seen this 100x as a mechanic, fix the problem BEFORE the block gets ruined! So many people will drive and drive with a known issue and end up taking a large financial hit because of it.

He won't likely be able to see a cracked piston unless he has a boroscope. Cracks normally appear near the ringland area out of sight. I'd assume that the oil scraper ring has failed while the compression ring is slightly damaged.

As stated above, put a small amount of oil in the cylinder and then do the test again. Be sure the car is warm.
