Cam install costs

So i got quoted today 8.9 hours to install a set of cams. Another 0.9 hours for the timing belt, water pump, and balance shaft belt replacement. Total of 9.8 hours

About $850 for just labor

Whats the deal? Does it really take this long to do this procedure?

Theres no way im going to pay that much to have this done. Im confident that with the proper tools and some reading i can do this in a weekend. I just wanted to not even have to worry about it pay somebody a few hundred bucks and have it done. I figured at most it would be like 350.

What do you guys think? Im located in CT Hartford area. This quote was from ECS in Windsor CT. Any other places that i could check out? Maybe XX tuning or swift?

Or maybe Al at dynoflash does he do installs? I tried contacting Ivey because i may have the car dyno tuned there after, but i never got a response.

Thanks for any information guys!

its takes 2 hours to do cams. at 8.9 hours they must be pulling the head off... but thats totally unnecessary.

I'm on Long Island so a bit of a treck but I charge $150 for a cam install. I'm on the low side but you shouldn't pay much more than that.

Edit: I now charge $200 for a 8/9 and $400 for a 10.

Hey Mojo Motorsports. I'm curious, what do you charge to replace the valve springs and retainers?

I personally wouldn't bring it to ECS regardless of their quote.

For timing belt, water pump, cams etc that is alot of the 60K service, labor is not way off, but pelase contact us via PM for a pricing breakdown.

If you can do it yourself, then you get to save some money.

If you are not competent and make an error with the timing belt you are going to need an engine in the worst case scenario.

Junior used to be at ICS he is now at "the shop", owned by Jimmy K.

Al works at ICS, owned by Jimmy's brother George K, but Al used to work at "the shop"

In other words there was a reversal of positions at some point.

Thought I would clear that up.

Sean Ivey is the best cam installer in the Northeast. He can do it while eating pie.

my bad

mojo's prices are right in line with mine. 150 for cam install. 100 extra for springs and retainers, so 250 for cams/springs/retainers. it only takes another 30-45 minutes to do the springs/retainers.
