My FP Black
as per the question you asked on the phone about what manley turbo tuff rod to use on a std 2.4. You need to order a 14403-4 rod. The specs matched that exact rod when measured on mine when i ordered anew one as you already know per my build thread

Man...deciding on a motor and who is going to build it...is the toughest choice I have had to make so far, with regard to the Evo.
Latest options:
1) MAP Built 2.0 4G63 + 'stage 3 or 4' head
Pro: Easiest to build + retaining the standard 2.0 block + no special parts needed + good for drag racing
Con: Spool with FP Black is bad
2) MAP Built 2.4L 4G64 + 'stage 3 or 4' head
Pro: Torque + great spool with FP Black + great street-ability
Con: Lower revs + custom head gasket + custom water pump adapter + no oil squirters to cool the pistons
3) MAP Built 2.1L De-stroked 4G64 + 'stage 3 or 4' head
Pro: Really high revs: 10K + great for drag racing
Con: Most expensive option + need built transmission to handle high RPM shifts
Decisions.....decisions.....

Option #3 is what I'm going with this Fall/Winter to accompany my new FP Black.
If I beat you to the build, I'll def post results and impressions. Good luck with whatever route you choose!

MAP can machine oil squirters into the 4G64 block. That throws that out. Lower revs? They rev their drag car to 9k. How much higher are you wanting to go? I haven't even seen anyone rev to 9k with a Black.
Truth be told, option 2 is a perfect balance for torque AND high revs imo. The custom headgasket thing is debateable, with the PE gasket around $230 and the custom AMS gasket around $160.

Wanted to clear up some misinformation. Option 1 you posted would be the original 4G63 block.

Your points are all true - I am leaning the most towards the 2.4L. I'm just trying to going through everything before dropping all this money....

And the water pump adapter plate is $25. Negligible in a $10k build.
EDIT: I should be finished with my build in the next 3-4 weeks. Engine will be arriving in the next week or so "hopefully." Follow my build thread if you'd like impressions. I'm basically going with your option 2 with a stage 3 head.

Like I said, just going over my options. As much as I love to drag race - 95% of my driving is on the street. The good thing about the 2.4L is the extra torque to make it for drive-able - especially in traffic

if you need help just ask i offered to help you out and we talked for alittle bit. I can find some sweet deals and get you into a motor I have sent you some good stuff already but you need to have the cash ready to get this going. JMS could build you a JMS 2.4 to the specs we talked about cheaper if you buy all parts and just pay labor from putting it together. you have my number you can call now
