evo9 head onto evo 4-8, what is needed?
Hi,
seeing as people are selling full evo9 mivec heads for a pretty good price, what is exactly needed to fix one of these (mechanically) to an earlier model engine? Is it just the oil needed for the actuation of the Mivec that is needed? Could i remote feed that instead of modifying the block etc?
any info would be great.
Cheers, Mike

Mike,
Obviously you need the head and the MIVEC feed and solenoid. You can remote feed from anywhere on the block, though the factory location is where the sender is on 4-8s. Here is a pic of how we did it on my 2.4 Non MIVEC block:

We tapped the block at the old sender location, cleaned it out really good and then just ran a -4 AN from that fitting to a 16mm/-4AN union. The biggest hurdle you'll have is controlling it since the wiring harness is different and you cant quite just drop the IX ECU in without some serious repinning and/or adapter harness.

wicked,
thanks John. thats exactly what i was after.
The wiring/controlling side wont be a problem, i'm going full aftermarket. Link g4. www.linkecu.com
This is just an option i'm exploring, and if i can get a head for a good price i think it's a valuable mod.
I've got my kelford 272's in my evo6 head, would they transfer over to the evo9 head?
Cheers, Mike

The exhaust will but you will need a MIVEC specific intake CAM. I would sell the ones you have though since most of the cam sets are ground with the MIVEC in mind so the lobecenters arent always the same between the nonMIVEC and MIVEC cams.
I would know little more how to convert Evo 8 harness for Evo 9 ecu ?
How many + wires need for the Mivec and only for Mivec ?
I know the Ecu plug is different too so need to find the 3 mother plug ...
But than just fit in the Evo 8 harness + wires and connect the right pin to the Evo 9 plug ?

I just bought a book off amazon titled how to build max performance 4g63t, in the bottom block chapter it shows pics and tell exactly what is needed to convert, it's a pretty detailed book, I haven't put it down yet, and I need to cause of homework due lol
