What to do? max stoxk turbo or upgrade?

I need some advice from some of you guys. I have a ix with minor boltons and a tune. I am looking to beef it up but I don't know if I should max the stock turbo out or just upgrade to a RED. Car right now has a Aem tru boost, HFC, CBE, DP, and a filter. I have purchase a ported BR exhaust mani and intake system, testpipe, and a fuel pump. Do you think I should retune it, or add s2's and retune it, or just get a RED, cams, fmic and be done? I already have a spare ix turbo for a rebuild...

if you can be patient and wait for the red to be built then you might as well do it all at once. dont waste $ by tuning in small intervals. get all ur parts ready, put everything on at once and tune it once. the difference in power will be more appreciable and noticable that way. goodluck

Do you want your stock turbo to be running maxed out hot, or would you like a turbo that you can run more efficient at same or lower boost? I say red all the way patients is the name of the game in modding your car. wait until you have all your supporting mods, and enjoy it. Nothing worse than dumping a bunch of cash into your car then have problems.

I think it also depends on what you want from your car: are you planning to autocross, time attack, drag...?

I would search the boards some more and see if the red is where you want to be in terms of spool / power wise. There are a lot of other really good stock frame turbos out there and if you have time, maybe a FP Black may suit your needs better.

Definitely wait until all the parts can be tuned together, it'll save you $300-400.

I agree, it all depends on what you are planning to do. As well as already stated, turbo efficiency

I am not gonna do any auto-x at the moment. I have been interested but just can't seem to get the time, maybe next spring. I am looking for a streetable turbo on pump with stock internals. I have been between the RED and the BBK but for the money the RED has room to grow. Lets not get this into a debate on turbos please! You guys helped me make my decision already n thanks for the advice.

I think it really depends on what you are looking to do and how much power you want....The stock turbo pushed hard can be a lot of fun. A larger turbo will be a tad lagier and will really only shine at higher boosts (e.g. the Red really seems to shine above 30 psi, yet some run them at 25 psi...)

I have maxed the stock turbo out and now want more power (seems to be a common theme) and now am looking for something bigger....

Until you get the red you could MBC the stocker and push it to 23psi or so. I don't think that would work it too hard and it's cheap power. It could be a substantial jump depending on your current tune. The red will spool noticeably later for sure.
