sheptrans questions and part questions

Im currently rebuilding my evo, the specs are in my sig and I plan on making somewhere around or slightly over 600whp.

I have a 2004 evo 8 I believe its a GSR? it has power windows, locks, etc.. no acd, or any of that stuff though. Does my car have a factory front LSD in the transfercase? and should I just go with the stage 1 shep rebuild if so or is 2/3 worth it?

The transmission im only going with standard stuff, as I don't want the 4.11 gears or evo9 first gear.

Thanks

I have an 04 gsr as well and no, they don't have LSDs in the front. I got the standard mitsubishi front LSD from Shep with the bigger bolts in the housing (not sure if that's stage 1). I only make about 520-550whp and 400-420wtq though. I have a friend that is making over 650whp on a 2.3 stroker with a standard 03 evo open front diff and hasn't had any issues with his transfer case, but he knows how to preload his launches well.

Only the 04 RS came with a front LSD. Then every EVO 05 and up got ACD and front LSD

Alright. Ya, I'm not sure what to do for the tcase. I think I'm going to get the stage 2 which is what you just described to me. How long has your buddy been at 650whp? And by preload do you mean get it slightly rolling then let the clutch out really slow and easy?

My only other concern would then be how strong is the LSD? I don't want to upgrade to something with more chance of failure rate then open diff.

I'll second the Evo9 1st gear/Input shaft.

Do some thinking about trap speeds and what tires/gear ratio's you want to run... especially if you're limited by rev's (2.3L)

I would look into a higher Final Drive... maybe the HKS 4.11 (which I guess is rumored to be an actual OEM mitsu part.) hit me up for contact info on this.

Im mostly building it for street / daily usage, not going to hit the track to much with it, but I will go to get a mph for sure. I just didn't want to sacrifice any fun with the final drive gearing on street driving. I did like the fact the final drive brought 4th gear up to 140mph though.

what does the 1st go up to on the 9? I'll definitely consider this if its a significant difference.

does shep do 3.73's ? those look nice. only 17% increase, which is not bad and just enough. 196mph topend

my evo started to fall apart at 120mph i can only imagine what it does at 196 haha.... my entire driver side weather stripping fell off. I've yet to replace it.

I didnt do the 4.11 because I was told that unless your making a real amount of power you are kind of limited by it?

plus I only do DD as well and do a lot of street pulls and not many come close to the top speed of the evo usually its over before that
