Just to state my reason for choosing the BBK was failure rate and spool!

With the right bolt-ons and such, I can't imagine how fast my car will be at the track. Now I get to go toe to toe with those C6 Z06 guys that know how to drive!!

As far as failure rate, has anyone with decent experience (ie, time trials, HPDE4, instructors, etc.) tracked a BBK at the 450+ whp level?

My goals are the just about the same with 400whp on pump gas on a mustang dyno. I just got a bbk full ported, and had the car dynoed at CBRD and got 374whp. I love the feel and spool of the bbk makes a huge difference over the stock viii turbo. Bbk is the way I would go!

Bbk full! Made from Mitsubishi parts. Still looks completely stock. Not that cheap casting! Not saying fps are bad, just not completely stock looking. Mike at awd ran a 10.2 bbk full. 552whp and 552wtq. Then I guess fp didn't like that and sent him all the colors of the rainbow!lol! Don't ride on the boyband color wagon! Bbk ftw!!

BBK works well all around.... we love the turbo, and it fits who we are as a company... reliability, repeatable performance, well engineered.... etc etc

cheers

Pizzaman - I hope you do understand that the car makes 10-15% more HP than regular Evo's and its much lighter, not saying its not a great accomplishment, just that a regular BBK owner or their tuner will never make those numbers because they wont push their car that hard.

we have quite a few out there,

one of our cars has 46,000 miles (about 22,000 on the BBK) and it has been run at 385-390 whp on our dyno on the track at 28psi without issue for quite some time, it was the third car to get a BBK....

there are more out there, check with people on the west coast.

My whole thing is if people choose the stock frame turbo to keep stock apperence then bbk all the way. Haven't heard of surge issues with bbk unlike that of the fps. IMO! Bbk full all the way.

People choose stock frame turbo's because of their Power VS. Cost over a big turbo kit not because they want a sleeper car. If you don't want people to know what you have just don't open your hood, its that simple. Btw I've never had any surge issues with my Red and I've had it for a couple months now, those other guys must be doing something wrong.

we dont have anti-surge covers because we don't have surge...

obviously the two go hand in hand!!

our turbo is the only 100% true stock appearing turbo, which is why many of the cali folks like it.. for them it's not as simple as "just dont open ur hood" if they police want to inspect the car!!

Yea but that only applies to them, besides you can always get a 64mm Red, they were doing just fine before the 80mm came out, all you need is the new oil line for warranty. Again not trying to take anything away from the BBK but the old Reds are just as good and I don't see why they are not considered 100% stock appearing.

I have like 15k miles on mine , 78k miles on the car. It's all in perfect shape! No track days but the car sees plenty of abuse.

we have only had about 7 documented failures out of 250+ units... not bad, and 5 of them were contamination/overspeed issues

we've replaced other stock housing turbos for ALOT of people overseas because it's too expensive for them to ship them back for repair/warranty work!
