Evos: How much oil are you using?
I'm not saying Amsoil isn't great - I'm saying that different oils behave differently and Amsoil may be more apt to be up in the top of the motor and is getting pushed out more - that's all. Heh, if you having problems, you need to start looking at all of the variables - use the scientific method....
True, I do agree with you totally. My only concern is I dont like switching oils. The only thing in my car so far has been Amsoil... I guess it wouldnt be that bad to switch brands, because I will be keeping the same weigh and such - 10w30...
Thanks for the feedback guys. Usually I check the oil at every fill up so I must admit that it's been hard to guage exactly where the oil level is at since it's usually dripping all over the dipstick as the oil drains back into the pan.
The last time I checked the level the car had been sitting for awhile and the oil had settled. I'm going to make an effort to 'record' the oil level a little more carefully at my next oil change. I drove the car fairly hard during break in (but still keeping it below 5,000 RPM for the most part). Since then I've basically been driving it like I stole since it rolled over 600 miles. Frankly I was more worried about the cams breaking properly than the rings.

It would be interesting to see the ratio of oil usage of Evos broken in the
way vs. the "hard way" with in the first 100 miles... I used the "Motoman method" where your rings are seated with in the first 100 miles or less. I also used this method with my SC GSR rebuild... I have to keep a close eye on the mileage on that one, as the oil doesn't get "dirty". That's on 10:1 compression at 8psi, with no intercooler, with about 11k miles on the build...

I loose no oil at all. I broke my car in a little of the moto man way and a little of the mitsu way meaning I pushed the car very hard to 5k rpms but didnt go over 5k rpms i did this for 1000 miles. I also opened the hood to make sure the car cooled extra good after every drive.
Mine is not using any at all. Just remember that not all evos are the same. It all depends on the break in and the way you drive the car. From what I see here...it's a 1 in 10 that use up oil.
for the first 7-8k miles it seemed to be using a little oil actually.. but since 10k and now at 12.5k miles it's just fine..
i'm wondering if it just takes that much longer to break in with mobil synthetic from the factory..

ya know i think i seem to be using less... boy do i rape the car though. I frequently do 150mph runs with my buddies R1....which of course still passes like your standing still
