New setup to beat my brothers 08' ZO6

Hello. My setup is below. I was tired of my brother talking all kinds of sh**, so i decided to upgrade my 05' EVO. The only mod he has on his Z06 is a cold air setup and tune. He is making 463 whp. He ran an 11.5 @ 125mph in the 1/4 mile. I want to know if the experience EVOM users think i will beat him with THIS setup? I know from reading alot of other threads that tunning has alot to do with it and i feel like i could take care of that because i have a really experience tuner. Please elaborate on yes or no answers. Talk to me.....

setup

Garrett GT35R turbo
tubular manifold
walbro 255 FP, vivid racing fuel rail and 1000cc injectors 93 oct. or E85
AMS innercooler and piping
all exhaust piping 3" all the way to the turbo
38mm tial wastegate
UICP and BOV
ACT HD clutch rated at 650 ft/lbs of torque(new)
STOCK CAMS
EVOSCAN/ECUFLASH

p.s. this is my everyday driver so i didn't want to go with a bigger turbo than this.

Any numbers or times to note with that setup? It looks like you should give him a run for his money, but it will depend on the tune and the driver significantly.

Upgrading the cams would help that engine breathe, also. They look to be the limiting factor at this point, especially on an 8. Any intake, etc?

Like I said, I would go with no, but not by too much. Add a few mods, and perfect your 60 foot and you should be alright.

I do not have any numbers from the car yet because i haven't finished installing everything. I understand about the cams though. how much more power do you think i will gain from upgrading to HKS 280's?

Here is a thread discussing the best 280 cams and fielding opinions.

General cam selection help:

I have experience with the 272s and they yielded significant midrange gains for me. It would vary from setup to setup though. I would be totally guessing if I threw a number out there because as of now you haven't said what your numbers look like at all... Maybe someone else could chime in if you gave them a hint of where you were...

HKS's are fine for smaller turbos, you should be fine with some 272's, Kelfords are the best IMO for the Evo 8.

11.5 is a bit hard to hit if you can't get your 60' foot right.

I say get the cams, a good tune and just practice because that ACT might "lock out" on you.

If you go E85, I think you are going to need more pump then the single wally to make the power you need to stay on top on of the zo6.

YES, if i ran E85 i would get another inline fuel pump.....more than likley at the track i would just get some race gas and retune for that. i wouldnt have a problem with my 60ft. cause ive been driving DSM's for a while now.....plus i really havent seen ZO6's do well on 60ftls due to traction problems and tranny issues. thanks for the cam threads i will look at those.

ANYBODY ELSE THINK I CANT BEAT A ZO6 WITH MY SETUP?? Just to let yall know im going to film the whole thing when i race him and post it on LS1tech and this site too to settle all the rumors!

I would go with GSC S2's for your cams, and run e85 with 30lbs. Game over if you nail a good 60ft.

don't underestimate a C6 Z06. He's a lot lighter than you, less powertrain loss. From a dig, you stand a chance. From a roll, it's going to be very difficult. Especially if you're on pump gas.

4th in a Z06 will run out to about 150+ or so depending on rev limit settings. They are also about 400 lbs lighter than an Evo. The recipe only requires about the same power at the dragstrip, but on the highway its gonna need another 50 or so. I wouldnt worry about E85 since you can do it on pumpgas with the right selection of parts.

As Sharkie pointed out, a little race gas on your current setup and some cams is all its gonna take. 515-540whp will shut it down pretty easy if you drive the car.

^Old school but gets the job DONE!

It will make the power and powerband you need to take your brother.

Question is are you wanting something to just take him now OR something that can take him now AND when he starts modding some more? They respond great to mods and can become a handful QUICK!

man you need a good tbe, head studs, cams, o2 housing intercooler piping, fp and e85 tune.

So when you beat your brother he can even say that you have an aftermarket turbo.
