The response of the LS7 is instantaneous, if the race is from a roll, you had better be brake boosting or it'll be over before it started.
You ever run your 35r evo at the track? 35r evos can run from low 400whp to over 600whp so there is a pretty big range there. Also, 4th gear runs out to 140mph @ 8500 rpm. I know the Z06 is like 150 or possibly higher and has better aero, so anything past 140 would be up in the air, depending on how much you out power the z06. I would say a setup in the 600+whp range would still be able to hang on to 160 or so before the aero would overtake the extra power.

I would say my setup would be good until I had to shift to 5th (140) and then it would be game over, because I am only around 500-530whp. As far as the instant power from a roll, the z06 would get a jump with no brake boosting, but it would just stay even after that. Losing by a car or two really isn't a big deal, it's the whole getting creamed thing that sucks When they look back and expect you to be light years behind them and you are right there is always a good time. Of course this is all bench racing anyway and a driver can screw up a 50-100hp advantage so who knows what the outcome will be.

The aero, gearing, drivetrain loss and power output advantage becomes very apparent after 100mph. It takes atleast 50+whp over the Z06 to even keep up at those speeds. Also unless you no lift to shift the torque and recovery speed is just not their in a 35r car. 4th will also run out to about 165mph and 5th to over 200mph.

OP I would just race him at the strip and put up number the same if not better than his. If he ask's to do a highway roll you better have e85 or race gas on hand A pump gas VIII with minimul mods *might hit 500whp on stock block at about 30psi...that wont be enough to take a Z06 on the highway.

Your setup has the potential to win at the track and from a roll, provided your brother doesn't throw some mickey thompson's and a nice size shot on the Z06. You may need to build the block to achieve the power levels necessary to win. Back in the day when the GT35r was popular AMS-built 2.3L evos with that turbo commonly made in excess of 600whp. That's the route I'd go if you're sticking with the GT35r. At this point cams, headstuds, valvesprings and retainers are a definite must as you'll need to extend your gears to take full advantage of the 35r's powerband. While I have no personal experience with ACT's, I hear horror stories about ACT clutches at high rpm, which unfortunately is where you are going to spend some time with these runs. Not too familiar with the fuel situation either, but I know for a fact you will need bigger injectors and a better pump setup if you go E85. Good luck

I am in the same exact situation. My good friend also has an 08 Z06 with an intake and the car is crazy fast. The first time I rode in it and he nailed it I was shocked! Believe the insane 0-60 times.

I immediately began to look into how to hammer him with my Nissan 300zx twin turbo. The person that supplies all of my parts runs low 9s in his car and told me that I am a pair of turbos and a pair of intercoolers away from beating the Z06. After reading all of this though, I am encouraged to take him on with the EVO after a few more parts. Thanks for the info.
