MAGNUS Stroker kit feedback needed.

Does anyone have info about either the 4G63...or 4G64-based Magnus 2.2L stroker kits?
Looking for reviews and feedback on quality...reliability etc. for "AutoX-spec" Evo 6 RS project.
PROJECT: ................ Evo 6 RS2
APPLICATION: ....... AutoX
ENGINE: ................. 2.2L stroker kit - Either 4G63 or 4G64-based.
CYLINDER-HEAD: .. OEM Evo 7 - "Gasket-matched" & (Intake ports) Polished.
TURBO: ................... FP 73HTA Green (FP ported...with 18 psi waste-gate actuator) - 54 lb./min nominal flow rate.
FUEL-INJECTORS: .. RC Injectors - 850-880 cc/min.
ECU: ......................... OEM Evo 7-8 Reflash - Mellon Racing.
EXHAUST: ................ Buschur S/S O2 Housing...3in "turbo-back" - Custom down-pipe and system.

CAMS: ...................... Suggestions needed for "short-track" AutoX layouts using 4.875 gearing...(HKS 272's...HKS 280's...other?)
Compared to the 4G63...is the lack of a 4G64 main-bearing journal "girdle" a reliability issue?

Any additional suggestions that will help to improve reliability and performance will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Magnus has built high quality stroker motors for many years. The quality and reliability are top notch. They have done extensive testing on the piston quench shape as well, and have about 100 different piston configurations available for their various rod/stroke combinations.

You will be very happy with whatever parts you decide to use from Magnus.

I know there is a aftermarket girdle made for the 6 bolt DSM G4CS block by Kiggly Racing. You might check with Magnus and see if one is made for the 4g64; however, the 6 bolt engine in the DSM is prefered to the 7 bolt, and the 6 bolt did not come with a factory girdle, so draw your own conclusions...

Thanks for the reply.

Has anyone else ever used a Magnus 2.2L 4G63 stroker kit?
Can I get a review from an actual Evolution 8-9 user?

4G64 most certainly has a girdle from the factory, I'll take pix if you like

You can run the LR Magnus 2.2 the same as the REALLY LR 2.2 that I have since its a 92mm with a 156 (1.695 same as stock almost) vs the 156/94 combo or the 162/94 I managed to sneak in.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that you used a Magnus 2.2 4G64 kit.
I'll have to read your "build" thread asap.

My budget doesn't allow me to buy a "built" short-block...
and concerns about accurate line-boring locally, may force me to forget about
buying a used 4G64 block and just rebuild my Evo 6 4G63 with the Magnus 2140cc kit.

The Workshop Manual details the use of color-coded, "micro-clearance" main-bearings for the Evo 6.
Do you have any info about this?... or will OEM US E8-E9 main-bearings do just as well?

All recommendations and advice will be really appreciated.

do any companies make a 2.3ltr stroker kit (4g63 block, 4g64 100mm crank) that is long rod?
so 156mm rods with 100stroke crank? so that the max rev limit is higher than 8000rpm (as stated in the pic above).
or possibly even a 153mm rod etc.

This what i'm looking at doing with my mirage, i dont want to use a 4g64 block, i dont think it will fit in my small engine bay, the engine is almost hitting the bonnet as is, let alone when we add another 6mm to the height lol

Cheers, Mike

^ ^ ^ Sorry for the late reply.

I've never heard of any 156mm or 153mm 2.3 stroker kits.

The problem is that the longer the rod, the shorter the height of the piston. Going from an 88mm crank to a 100mm crank eats up 6mm at the top of the throw. Unless you use the 4g64 with the higher deck height, there's not enough height for both longer rods AND a longer throw crank and still have pistons with enough height for the ring pack and stability...

Exactly. You can use a 94mm crank with longer rods, but not 100mm.
