Then get a AEM to get everything running smooth

For another $30, you can install an MBC and crank up the boost to 20psi. Then, for about $175, you can convert your car to fwd and dyno on a 2wd Dynojet. With some tuning, you should not have a problem getting well over 300hp at the front wheels. The area under the curve and run-to-run consistency won't be optimal but, man, you'll have a killer bang-for-the-buck hp number generator.

The nachos at the drag strip suck. The nachos are much better at road race courses. I recommend popcorn at a drag strip.

And yeah, the Evo comes with some pretty good stuff, bone stock. Personally, I'd ditch the POS plastic BOV for a $45 used 1G DSM BOV, though. Modify it using a drill, a WOT switch and a solenoid, and you are golden to hold as much boost as the turbo can muster.

With the stock downpipe and cat in the way, though, I doubt that you would see another 3 to 4 mph with the addition of the cams.

You do what you have to, I guess.

I use the drag strip to tune, though. I am interested to see what sort of power I'm putting down with the 16G, though with my latest tuning. So I may hit a dyno sometime this winter.

Stage 1 includes a 3" downpipe and a 3" free flow cat. Test pipe optional but not really recommended.

Aah, see, I assumed you left the stock downpipe and cat since it isn't emissions legal to remove a stock, working cat before 65,000mi.

MP5-

If you go catless are the benifits mostlyt only in the upper power band or is there a clear power increase throughout?

Unlike our rexes, seems like people can do a 3" turboback and keep the factory cat and still get great power gains.?

The stock cat is the biggest restriction in the exhaust system. It is a very good cat almost hi-flow for OEM but a good hi-flow after market will do very well. A Test pipe works well but the smell on a street car drives me nuts.

People do get gains because the cat-back is restrictive and the downpipe on the EVO does have some crush bends to clear the tie bars.

For a good exhaust that makes power you want 3in, straight throw muffler with a good hi-flow 3in cat or test pipe. I perfer the Cat just for the smell factor.

Ok the mods I have are Cam gears/ Xede, a Buschur 2.5" test pipe, and the Buschur 2.5" axle back- So basically a 2.5" straight through. My dyno was 287AWHP and 270 TQ 3 other real stage 1s put down 300-308AWHP and 275 TQ- They have power over me everywere- I need a 3" TB bad. Just pony up and get the TB its worth the 20HP or you cam buy my buschue axleback and test pipe for 225 if you arent trying to eek out all the HP possible and you can revert to stock in 15 min.

Oh man I would tear at stop lights with the windows down. Plus Hi-flow cats work so well your only losing a few ponys and keeping mother earth green for my childern and Shapes childern and yours is just priceless.

Shape, come on man give it a rest. You know your ****, but you know that Vishnu stuff is not cheap nor is it basic. it's got some bling to it and most EVO owners want that (Me included). Xede VS S-AFC is done to death and you know what the advantages of having timing control are. for 895 it offers a lot to users. And 110 in the traps are not bad.

What kind of numbers do you guys think a Vishnu stage 1 (or equivalent) WITH factory stock cat in place would put out?

Has anyone seen this configuration dynoed???

I like the idea of retaining the stock cat. (BTW, anyone know if it is ceramic or steel?)

I only have one child, actually, and I plan to keep it that way. He gives us enough trouble.

One problem with having a cat is that you can't run leaded race fuel with one. And these cars definitely love race gas.
