Defi Oil Pressure Gauge reading EXTREMELY high... HELP

I've had my Defi Oil, Boost, EGT Gauges for i'd say about 2years installed. just recently the oil pressure reading has skyrocketed, usually never going above 100psi which i figure is normal. Well now it's winter here in Md and cold as sh*t here right now... the gauge shows 20psi while off and on idle shows between 40-80psi and climbs with the rmp's. the gauge has seen as high as 135psi at about 4000 rpm. i understand the oil runs thicker during colder times but these pressures cant be safe.

My question is what is going on, is this normal. can my pump even produce that amount of pressure, without a damaged relief spring. would you think my sending unit is bad. i was thinking of grabbing a mechanical oil pressure gauge just to check but i wanted to hear some opinions first. I changed the oil yesterday, mobil 1 10w-30 with matching filter.

mods are minor, just basic boltons and i have around 70k miles

Any intelligent suggestions would be helpful.

I'd check the sender first. Let the car warm up so your water temp is in the middle of the range, so you know your oil pressure is not affected by cold temps.

I live in MD and the highest pressure is see is 6 Bars about 90 psi. I would check the sending unit first. If you have your's connected directly to the oil filter housing, vibration could have damaged it. AMS sells a stainless steel hose which eliminates this vibration and extends the life of the sending unit. Defi sells them independitly. Hope this helps!

it doesn't sound too outrageous. Depends on temps and what weight oil you use. I see 100-120#'s regularly before my motor heats up, and this in Houston where 45 degrees is a cold day! I have the Defi gauges also. Once warm, I still see about 90-100 #'s at high rpm's.

Oil pressures are extremely high before fully warmed up. With my Defi gauge I've found my idle pressure to be between 10-20 psi and 70-80psi at 3,000 RPM. Both my values fall within factory spec.

I'm fairly certain the sending unit is DONE given the fact that it reads 40-60psi without the car running and just on power... I am having a hell of a time trying to buy just the sending unit.

any idea where i can get just the sending unit?

and thanks EVO8SPEED for the info on that AMS product, got one on the way.
