is there any reason to not go with a cometic head gasket instead?

i asked about that....and my tuner said the stock gaskets are as strong as after market ones.

this is just one of those things that happens randomly...cause a guy running similar set up has 107,000 miles and at least 20 track days and still on stock gasket...and my tuners car has 80xxx miles with a 35r @ 30psi and still stock motor. im sure there are many others.

but if someone can chime in and explain why an after market head gasket is significantly better....

just for reference stock gasket is $60 and Cometic is $95

yeah id like to know too...

one would think that an aftermarket company such as cometic would be a better choice then going back to the stock gasket...a lot of my DSM friends swear by cometic...

BUMP for some responses!

Well i would assume that was the issue, I would just go back ARP headstuds and a OEM headgasket

I had to pull the head on my car. I went with the oe headgasket and ARP studs when mine was done. Personally I think oe is fine, up to you though.

There was a thread a while back a shop did a comparison of evo head gaskets including cometic...

Stick with stock unless your doing mega boost.

If you search the internet, you'll see pressure film testing done with cosworth, oem, and cometic head gaskets on the 4g63. The cometic was absolute trash compared to the oe and cosworth. I think the article was on motoiq.com
