Garrett GTx-R turbos/comp wheels.

Hi all,

Has anyone seen the new Garrett GTX-R wheels? i have heard some VERY good things about them. Here are some specs nicked form the Garrett website.....

10%+ Gain in flow over traditional GT compressor wheel designs

10%+ Higher pressure ratio compared to traditional GT compressor wheel designs

Forged, fully machined wheels (billet) for expedited release

11 Full-blade design for improved efficiency and ultra quiet operation

Here is the info on Garretts wesite: http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...ochargers.html

Think they have the GTX-42R and GTx-45R turbo avaliable. GT35 should be out later this year.

Cheers

Chris.

Nice turbos, Ive had a few of them already that I bought. The new design cuts down noise. A friend of mine will be doing a dyno very soon to see what the gains are from a standard 42R.

Youre also a day late and a dollar short, my friend.

Chris, it got moved but you can follow the link to our car that is getting the final touches on its new build as we speak. Plan is take it to the dyno this weekend so we'll see how it does at low boost versus the old 4202.

I would be interested if only they would release some wheel combos that were more suited for street/road course in the 35r size at the largest. Not everyone needs a 700+ hp drag car!

I will not claim it was a back to back test but,

We saw about 11% more power at 35psi than we did last year on the standard 42R. There might be more in it as I do not know what the timing numbers were before and after. The old motor was an 8.5:1 and the new motor is a 10.5:1, cams and head are the same, basically its turbo and compression changed.

The math on that seems to be a pretty consistent 4% per full point. In this case we went 2 full points so we'd be around 8.16% from compression all else being equal. I am sure there is more than 3% to be had by swapping the turbo but right now with such a new combination we arent sure where the end of the rope is. To put it into perspective though, our test car last year at BOTI in Woodburn ran 9.29@149 at 40psi ( 600whp through the auto and slicks). Yesterday in Sacramento the car ran a 9.3@152.xx at only 37PSI and a conservative tune (less timing). It ran several 150s/151s at 35psi as well. It made 669whp @ 35psi friday night so it is definitely up overall. I will try to be more comprehensive in the data about this particular TURBO (leaving the car out of it, though it is Mitsu) as I get it.

I wouldnt hold your breath on the smaller GTX-Rs as #1 FP has the turbos you want already, and #2 these were meant for large turbo class racers.

We did some test and RD for these prototype wheels last summer before garrett anounce their existance in public.

Better wheel than old hiped cast, better airflow characteristics.
almost 1bar-p2c/p1c better presure ratio than the old one compared to the same diameter and to the same compressor housing, and ~12% better flow. Heavier than the old. ~6% better thermal ability over 30psi.
there are 70mm,74mm and 80mm versions available, also 61mm 66mm and 94mm coming. Turbine wheels and catride ballbearing system will be the same.

An updated 61 sounds interesting. Similar 10% gains as the GT42 stuff?
