Transmission Help

Hey guys, some of you know I'm in the process of a 2.3L build.. I want to check out my transmission also, when I drained it earlier tonight the fluid was a little dark and very gritty. Very, very fine metal shavings throughout the fluid. This fluid is no more then 5,000 miles old. I change it every 10k..

How can I pull my tranny apart and take a look? I have never done transmission work before so I'm a bit hesitant to take anything apart

I would recommend you don't. If you have never done tranny work I would not attempt it on your own. Not something that is easy in my opinion..

so you wouldnt recommend me pulling the case cover off the side opposite of the bell housing area? I wasnt planning on taking anything apart, but just visually inspecting what I can see.

But I'm not trying to be difficult. If you dont recommend it then I wont do it.

i wouldnt recommend doing it, if its very fine shavings its not a big deal and relatively normal wear and tear, once you start seeing decent sized scrapings thats when you should worry. just keep an eye on it, check it again in 5 thousand miles, and see if it has gotten worse or affected your shifting. btw what fluid are you using?

x2. I will add, if these shavings are after only 5,000 miles and very plentiful, keep an eye on it. A small amount of shavings will accumulate, most of which end up on your drain plug. I've ran Redline and had great luck with their fluid line. It sounds your a hands on guy. Props to you, and keep it up!

sounds good, i wont touch it.

I only use Redline MT-90.. and 75W-something, haha I honestly dont remember what weight it is...

75w-40?

I might upgrade to a dog box in the future. Its a track only car, so no worries about driving it too much
