My clutch just started slipping on my evo ix that has 77000 miles on it. My car only has a turboxs catback exhaust and turbxs intake and is also reflashed. I have also been having problems with a loud clunking from my front right for the past year and finally after taking it to five different mechanics a transmission specialist finally found out what it was. I have to call tomorrow for specific details but he said it was the pinion bearing or shaft or something. So i will be getting that fixed as well as the new cluth. So my questions are what type of clutch would you suggest and should i get it done after, before or at the same time as the transmission. Has anyone had any problems with their tranny like this either? Any help would be great thanks.

it depends on what your gonna do to your evo in the future or if your leaving it basically stock. theres plenty of posts on choices out there and you can find plenty of info if you search, good luck
i dont plan on doing anything more to it just maintaining it so it runs forever. ANd i have searched but nothing matches my specifics. Thats why i tried to ask so i can get some expert advice. But thank you for your help.

if your not modding the helk out of it then get a act street clutch. itll last long and itll drive similar to stock. imo!
ok so do i have do buy a clutch kit or just a disc or pressure plate? Im a little confused by what im seeing on lancershop. ANd would you recommend getting a flywheel as well?If so what kind and should i go lighter, heavier or stay the same with the flywheel.?Sorry for all the questions i just want everything to e done correctly. Thanks for the help

Usually when u order a clutch it comes with whats needed. Order from map performance get a act street comes with pressure plate, disc, and a new throw out bearing.
well i have one more question. What type of disc would be best for my mods and me being an everyday driver?

MAP > Lancershop
You want a full face disk not a puck style.
I like my competition clutch stage 3. It's priced right and it would probably fit your needs.

They have the ACT if you prefer.

Did the clicking start after you installed springs or anything? When I went cheap and just dropped it on springs I was getting a clicking sound. After I changed the whole suspension then everything went away.

hey man, there are a ton of great threads out there, but as everyone knows, the search function sucks.
If you are not planning on modding the heck out of your car, stick with something simple. As the above poster said, stay away from the puck style clutches for your street driving. Personally, i would not order from LancerShop, I have in the past, but would stay away from them if you could. MAP is a great company, and you will not go wrong with them or any other big name companies, I have gotten most of my parts from JSC Speed mainly because they are local and have the best prices and will price match.
The ACT clutches are know for high rpm lockout, but if you are going with the street disk you should be fine. I know plenty of people who have had them without any issues, but also some that have. Whatever you decide on, just make sure you get a good shop that knows Evos to install it properly the first time. If your tranny is getting looked at its best to just get it all done at once and possibly save on the install costs.
I personally went with a ClutchMasters Stage 3 clutch and Fidanza LW Flywheel. If you are replacing the clutch, you should also consider replacing the flywheel (esp if you have 77K) or at least getting your flywheel resurfaced depending on condition. All of the tiltons, Exedy, and QM clutches were overkill for my mods and overpriced, so the CM was a great choice for me. Stock like pedal feel, smooth engagement, and holds power like a motha! Got a heck of a deal from JSC so I couldnt pass it up. CM's are big with the honda guys, have not heard of many people running them in the Evo, but I have had mine DD and track use for over 2 years without any problems.
For the sake of keeping this semi short, feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions and I will help you any way that I can. GL with whatever route you choose brotha.
