the t-cases are fine and they are very strong and will last for a very long time unless you can't drive. A lot of people have gone 10's on stock t-cases. They are build to take abuse on daily basis even if you don't launch your car there is still stress applied on the t-case. An no bigger teeth, would NOT work cause you will through of the gear ratio, which means that you car will not drive normal, then bigger gears will prolly mean a bigger case, and more and more headache.

of course.

But treating the gears gives a very nominal gain in strength. if any. treating gears will reduce friction at surface which would help when run hard for extended period like autocross/roadrace. does virtually nothing for drag race strength.

Whats needed is for gear teeth to be made larger. and thats not an easy task if you want to retain the current gear ratios. the whole t-case would need to be made bigger. and thats why there isnt a stronger gear set available..

I an not looking at treating stock gears, nor looking at using oem material or oem gear cut or profiles, all of those are pretty worthless. Looking at brand new better material, better cut teeth, etc

I understood what you meant. fact is the factory gear strength is already astronomically high. There may be some better material to make them from like titanium and such. But those materials are prohibitive expensive. Like 10k to make one ring and pinion. So if making new gears with same profiles as old is not gonna happen then the next thing to consider is to use similar materials the factory did and change profiles to make teeth bigger. then new larger housings would be needed to fit them

I looked into getting ring and pinions made. They quoted the cost of a run of 50-100 units to be the minimum before designing such a gearset.

From what I heard shep is buying the ring and pinions from mitsu in bulk to rebuild cases.

You CAN find aftermarket ring and pinion (may be just OEM from Getrag), but the cost is somewhere around $1200 (on Shep's site). At that price it is usually not worth it. You are better off just picking up a used low mileage T-Case and having it strengthened and reshimmed. . .

I wonder if someone could make a straight cut ring and pinion? I would have to imagine that would be much stronger!

factory strength is not that high..... I am being told these can be made at least twice as strong as stock, and they will fit right in the case. For not much more$ than oem gears.

Is that the ring and pinion that Shep sells for around $1200, or is it a one-off deal? What material is it made of and what kind of heat treatment or hardening process has it had?

If this is something new, something different than Shep offers, I am very interested to hear more. . .

I am not sure where Shep is getting his from, but I am sure if he is doing it, it will be good.

Looking to upgrade transfer case. I was gonna go with a shep rebuild, but this may be an option. What's the price?
