basic stock turbo mods... I dont want an intake.

i love the idea of some added power. im realisticly looking to make 350wheel on sub 25psi. intakes sound like crap, sssssssvvvvvccssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... annoying. ive herd stock air box it good for 350whp.
-stock box (hks drop in)------halman------ 3" tbe----licp evo 9.

long story shot. have people left the stock air box and made good power?? thanks again
please looking for hard facts not just.. oh get an intake bc its good. im sure it wont hurt. however i like the stock air box. for everyreason.

Well you are going to lose some power without an intake.

TBE, mbc, licp, and cams will probably do it. You should really consider an intake, though.

rather just leave it alone. i dont think that will make magic hp. just looking to see if anyone has gone the same route. seems most people just buy an intake... well just because.

This has been covered a few times, but basically the stock snorkel assembly is like taking the car to 3000 feet for the KPA drop measured at the turbo from stock to most intake systems. What this equates to in the real world is a 350whp car that makes high 330s on 92 octane.

Or because their tuner tells them that an intake will result in additional power. Have you done any research on the subject?

Kind of funny...as I was posting about "my tuner", Aaron, who is the person who convinced me to get an intake and a good one at that, was making a post in the same thread!

The easiest way to prove it to yourself is tune or have the car tuned to the edge with the stock airbox in place, then make a pull with no changes and the lid off. I see 338-341 cars go to low 350s all the time. Not just because I sell parts, because I dont argue with my customers when I can just show em

McDougal knows whats up

No way you'll make 350 whp DJ with a essentially a TBE (with test pipe) and a tune. LICP helps a bit, but you'll need cams to get there.

I've not seen any gains on the street when switching from a stock intake box with a Works drop-in and vented cover to an amsoil cone filter. It appears that the improved airflow is being offset by higher intake temps due to sucking in hot air from the radiatior. Once I get an airbox built around the filter, I expect the story will change a bit. BTW, during off-boost driving with a cone filter, there is no intake sucking sound.

I understand your acoustic air filter concerns, I just find your criteria ridiculous. It is OK to have an exhaust but not an air filter because of sssssssvvvvvccssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh noise?

What about the exhaust noise?, very much all the Evos sound the same. You will be sacrificing a lot of HP but not going with a high flow air filter but if noise is your priority then go ahead and have a quiet slower car.

Remember, you will still have anoying noises like drone on your exhaust on HWY, BOV whisle noise when shifting on boost, exhaust note when on WOT, etc.

Carlos

I did 366 with tbe, mbc, bov, fuel pump, hks 264s, and 100octane @ 28psi. That was over 3 years ago. Much has advanced since then.

i have the turbo xs intake for my evo and it has done nothing but put a smile on my face. i had the stock airbox setup with drop in filter and it did nothing for me. either way you look at it you are getting more air vs a stock air box. but hey its all personal opinion right?
