Dave. Is the 2.0 still your #1 choice for this kind of build? Was the 2.1 even discussed. It seemed like a shame to even take that motor apart.

Here are the changes I think we are going to make over my current setup:

- high compression pistons
- new bearings
- BR Fabricated Intake Manifold
- HTA3586 or PTE6765
- ID2000 injectors
- BR billet fuel rail
- refresh the head
- refresh the transmission
- run the car primarily on E-85

The goal is to make over 700whp on Buschur's dyno and have a fast and fun street car. Hope to get a 9 second pass in my own car too.

cool man. good luck. from the looks of it in the past on the condition of the motor i would say you dont have much to worry about other then holding the F on and getting your personal goals at the track.

Nice work As usual.. We have several of these out on the streets here locally.. I need to check in on mileage over the last couple years and see if we have anyone over 20k..

slorice,

As can be seen by your rods, steel rods wear very well, even with high HP, high RPM and a decent amount of miles. I do think though for your new goal, aluminum would be best. After the initial tear down in the video I didn't take the pistons off the rods. I believe Ted pulled them apart today and they were to be checked.

I should have taken video of VWJeff's engine when we dropped new rods/pistons in his, he was running the Grodens, went a little quicker and faster than Slorice and that engine was also in phenominal shape. His only problem was the pistons in his car lost the skirt coating.

We are no longer using Grodens, we are using GRP's now, so far so good.

Plans for the car are 700 whp in 3rd gear. My car and Brian's both made those numbers and both went 159.xx mph. Slorice's car is a bit heavier but should still be good for 155+. VWJeff's car is here having the same idea's put to it.

BTW, since there will some know-it-alls who come across this topic. The "high compression" build Tim is going with will bring the compression up to just short of 10:1. The engine that was in his car was on our original style/compression piston which was 8.8:1 like stock. The new piston uses a semi-hemispherical dish with a 0 deck piston.

Sorry, missed the 2/2.1 liter engine.

Both are great engines, it's a tough call. In this case Tim's got a good 2 liter core and such so financially it makes the most sense to stick with a 2 liter. At the power levels he is going to reach it does start to reach a level you have to worry about splitting a cylinder.

For safety sakes, a 2.1 probably makes the most sense at the level he is pushing for, financially it makes the most sense to stick with the 2 liter.
