it depends. if the v1 can be upgraded to v2 with a circuit change and not a whole new box then offer the option like hydra does.

Yes the new one comes with a USB cable. I have not tried it yet and am using the 9 pin seriel cable.

There are rumors of some updates for the original EMS coming in the future, only rumors that I have heard.

All existing sensors or any sensor for that matter can be used with the EMS. There is no longer an integrated wide band box or the old style square box external wideband controller. There is a new external wide band controller now. In this EVO9 I didn't change ANYTHING, not a single wire. The AEM gauge was wired into 02#1 and I unplugged on box and plugged the new one in.

I don't understand the comment about memory increase and logging. The logging in the AEM old or new is exceptional, one of the best features of the old unit actually.

As for feedback on the Series 2 versus the Haltech and ViPEC. All three I'd say start as fast as the other now. The difference on this particular car is night and day so far. This car does not rev like my RS. My RS with the Haltech on it revs better than any EVO I have ever sat in. The Haltech is very good and I think of the three I have the least time in it. I never quit got the idle figured out and beyond that I can't remember much about it. The ViPEC drivability was excellent. The two cars I installed it on ran good. I had a few small problems. The ViPEC does have knock control, it's available seperately as crcain said. It has datalogging similar to the AEM, has to be downloaded seperately and seemed a bit odd to use. I really like that it fits in the stock ECU case and I'll be honest, I'd like ALL ECU's to fit in the stock ECU case.

My RS, is currently on the Haltech. The car is finally in the shop getting all the work done I've been planning. I had the car tuned with the Haltech and I am going to start the car on it again. I plan to do some initial tuning and get the car squared away then switch to the Series 2 on it and compare.

Well guys I have great news and to be honest I can not even believe it. I have had some information leaked to me from a very good source at AEM that there is going to be a "trade-in" type program that will come in the future through a few select tuners. I am not able to give anymore details than that and PLEASE do not contact AEM concerning this. This is leaked information only to let you guys know that in the weeks to come you will see something offered from AEM concerning the S1 (series 1) EMS's.

I've never seen any company step up like this, it blows my mind to be honest. I know if we release a new turbo kit I can not possibly take back the old ones on some type of "trade in" program.

I will release more details as I get them and I am allowed. AEM is not ready to do anything this minute so please be patient.

Thanks for reading.

That is great news. It's always nice to see a company willing to reward loyal customers.

i was at Road Race Engineering using their dyno to tune my car and a customer's evo x. the guys from AEM were there with the series 2 they used my car to test out a feature they said they were building into it. the ability to use the intercooler switch with the standalone somehow didn't go into too much detail but spoke with them for a while very cool guys hope to switch over to it on my car soon

Well I am glad someone is having better luck with the Series 2 then me. I just purchased the 6310 had it shipped overnight from AEM directly serial number 025 so I am guessing the 25th unit produced for the public It has never ran right and just died all together at 4 pm tonight!

The guys at AEM have been very good to deal with though. For my sake I hope they get these working otherwise I need my series 1 back!!!!

PS never offered me a trade in even if they did would it even be close to the $800 I sold it for? I say good luck with that

Did you notice that uploads/downloads take twice as long with the serial cable now? I did with my unit.
Also you have to have USB 2.0 to use that option I tried using it but it kept loosing connection and would no auto log back on? but my laptop is 5 years old and has usb 1.1 and I don't want to buy a $$$ laptop just to use the native USB although the up and download rates are easily twice as fast! even with 1.1.

I asked tech about drop down tab menus(like pro) and/or updates for my other series 1 and they said no changes planned for the stupid tuner browser and no updates for the series 1 do to the software(settings) and hardware being totally different.

Also even though there is a conversion wizard to convert your old 1.19 "PRO" maps to 1.11 tuner maps think again I was told by AEM that even though its there...
"I can't tell you not to use it but it does not work" "You still have to change internal setting to make it work" "You are better off using our base cal. and cut and paste your fuel and timing maps and all the engine start/accel configurations are also different"

So basically you need to get it tuned again I asked "Yes"

Yes, it loads slower now than before. Most of the software works slower too. They are still working through that I am being told.

I was able to tune out the stumble or jerking or bucking around "whatever u wanna call it" that u can get around 2-2500rpm from large injectors, cams, intake manifold etc that Mr Buschur speaks of on the series 1 AEM box. I did this through an option in AEM... And my car and other cars i tune that had this issues before now run smooth as silk. I admit it was very aggravating and annoying... But once i got the issue figured out it runs just like a stock ECU... nice and smooth So for me the only major thing i would like to see improved would be the start sync. ATM i have no desire to spend the 2K to go to the new AEM until i hear some more things about it that would make it more worthwhile for me to switch over as i am having no issues from the series 1 AEM boxes. Im sure AEM will get it all straight and it will be a very good and solid unit! Until then i will keep rockin my series 1 AEM box that for me is working very well!

I was also told from AEM not to try to import your old v1 file. Its better to start from their wizard, then copy and paste the data from the old v1 file. Serial #19 here. Not installed yet.

BTW- Nice review Dave!
