Salvaged 03 evo with Mivec?
Salvaged 03 evo with Mivec?
I just bought an 03 with a salvaged title. The previous owner only had it for a year but was told by the original owner that the engine was replaced after an accident. Is there any way to verify if the engine is the original e.g. should the vehicle VIN be anywhere on the engine? Or is there a way to tell if the engine is from an 06+ evo (Mivec)?
Thanks for the help.

There is vins on the block, you will have to remove your upper intercooler pipe to see it, When you find the vin on the block run a carfax free "preview" and it will tell you what year car the engine is from.
We have done the swap a couple of times. Its not really that intense, at least anymore than any other motor. Put up a pic of the car, since you are in WA we probably had something to do with the swap.

Well it's a blue evo from the Dalles, OR and from the reciepts, looks like the previous owner went to English Auto on May 11, 2009 for fixing exhaust leaks and timing belt adjustment.
I'm not very Mitsubishi savvy apart from doing some internet research on 4g63s on GSXs and Evos. The only cars I'm used to toying with are 94-97 Honda Accords... although I've never messed with turbos or anything. But I know this car has a Blitz SBC Spec-R boost controller, a monster intercooler, a wideband o2 sensor (no gauge), and a GT35R turbo running at 30psi on pump gas - no engine knock. The 30psi scares me from what I've read and am thinking i'd rather have it at 22-24 for longevity's sake.
The car has stock camshafts, which i'd like to eventually upgrade... and am would also be interested in adding meth injection one day. Of course, these are all just ideas of things floating around in my head. But before I even begin entertaining these thoughts, I'd definitely like to educate myself on exactly what I already have. For starters, (altho this may be out of order)... if I have a Mivec.
Here are some pics of the engine. I'll post pics of the car in daylight tomorrow if I remember. Thanks for all the replies.

Found out this car had many of its upgrades done at Forged Performance in Troutdale, OR. Guess I could always give these guys a call and see if they remember this car.
Oh and forgot about the 1000cc Precision injectors, walboro pump, and ACT 6 puck clutch... altho now I'm just listing parts. Don't think this helps identify the engine.
