You're starting to sound like a twinscroll guy now Dave - lol

I'm joking with you Dave...

I think you and many others need to see a lot more testing/results before you would be willing to revisit twinscroll...

Congrats on another sick build...

Informative test, thanks for that. It's logical to guess that the smaller diameter primary will be 'too much of a good thing' at some power level, and now we know roughly where that point lies. IIRC, the figure Geoff quoted off the top of his head as the threshold of one or the other is in the general vicinity of what your test revealed.

As you know, evodan2004 has a TS HTA3586 with the smaller diameter primary tubing, while my TS HTA3582 has the larger diameter. From what I can tell in comparing our 93 octane info, the difference is right about exactly enough to offset the difference in spool between the two turbos.

Good stuff!

With this theory, you would get the stronger bottom end benefits your looking for with the smaller runner, and the top end performance with the expanded internal area.

Could be just some stupid thought, or just what you need.
They are 2 stroke, and when building two stroke exhausts the pressure inside the exhaust pipe, at the exhaust tip, and at the exhaust port all need to be carefully tuned so that you do not run into restrictions at certain rpm points, lots of sonic tuning not relative really to turbo cars...

Ooh idea, for ya dave! Variable diameter exhaust manifold tubing! Tie it to the same switch you use for your dual-stage MBC. At low boost, it uses the smaller tubing, at high boost it uses the bigger tubing! Genius! I'm sure implementing it will be no problem

and hey, you missed my note at the top of the last page: take this thing down the track yourself a few times this year, just for fun!

In some crazy diesel applications they do this by having the second volute of the turbine closed off so at low RPMs it's acting as a single scroll super small volume turbo and at high RPMS its acting as a large volume twin scroll unit, very cool.

Dave you need to make some passes this year!

Did you end up advancing the camshafts and playing with cam timing?

Have you thought about putting a MIVEC head on your car to help spool up even more?

VGT turbocharger?

E85 makes a big difference in spool up time as well! Test it vs. C16 or Q16. I'm sure Crispeed has done his own testing on this.

THANK YOU DAVE! I loved the TS results. I'm super stoked that you tested it, even if you didn't believe in it... shows that you're open and willing to try anything if it makes the car faster. Big thumbsup.

I just saw this sort of spool valve being used on a 2jz. A twin scroll housing on an open maifold with a valve closing the "inner" volute until a boost pressure. The guy was claiming some serious spool up gains with little or no loss up top. I'm interesed to see more testing with these.

Sounds like your making great progress here DB. I'll be following this re-build for sure
