boost controller question/advice?

I need help, ive researched on here, about 10-15 threads about different boost controllers, but its hard to choose, and most of them are very old threads, so maybe was looking for some up to date information, ive researched for either mbc or ebc, it seems the mbc's can hold boost better and easier to use (from what i have read) or is that wrong? i beleive the hallman boost controller seems to be most popular in evos, but i read they sometimes taper boost down to 16to17psi, just some peoples problems i have read. ive been looking at the hallman evolution rx boost controller kit? does anybody else run this? does it spike often? does it taper horribly? i still have a stock turbo by the way, ive read that 20psi is usually what the boost controller should be set at, like i said just looking for some up to date information.

most people on here will suggest the mbc for easy set up, price, and works great, now which one is a personal favor thing, i use a forged which works great others use the hallman which is great also, no matter what y our going to get some taper its just the stock turbo but youll be happy with the hallman, and 20 psi is ok untuned but you can push it to 25 with a tune... hopes this helps

i would really suggest the hallman with the in cabin adjuster. temp changes change boost a lot and its a pain to get out and pop the hood on a cold morning to stop overboosting. set it on a warm day, the next morning you can be 5 psi higher.

The constant changing of temp is another reason i was researching ebc's as well

I had one of the guys here at work get a EBC and he said it worked for sh*t.

He then bought a MBC and no probs. I have never had any problems with mine.

I've personally noticed a variance of maybe 2psi going from cold Minnesota winters to hot TX summers. I think people blow the temp change thing way out of proportion. Honestly, I'm fine with my boost going a bit lower during the summer since intake temps are a lot higher; its a little extra safety margin. I've seen ECU-controlled boost and EBC's vary more than that during a run, and especially run-to-run. I've tried them all and always end up back to MBC's. They're just so cheap, simple, and best of all effective!

I have never really had to move it much with the temp change.

I totally agree with this i would totally get the in cabin to cuz it does suck while doing a road tune you have to pull over get out and adjust. do NOT get a turboxs, it bleeds air to create boost, the hallman is the best for an evo.

They (ball/spring MBC's) all have a small bleed hole to prevent the wastegate from sticking open. The TurboXS is a decent design, its just very expensive. The only MBC's I've heard of constant failures or inconsistencies with are the Forge, the inline MBC's, and the cheap eBay ones.

im just getting started on my evo build. but on my sti with a built high compression motor and 35r it changed a lot. i guess if you mount the body of the controller in a spot that consistent like on the radiator, then it doesnt change as much. either way, the cockpit controller is worth every cent.
