2.3l 4g63 vs 2.4l 4g64

i want to buy a built motor but cant decide between the too!?!

the 4g64 alm block is a few hundred cheaper even without a core and it supports better low end tq then the 2.3

the car will be used as a dd with an fp-red & pump gas

i dont care about the price, not that i'm a baller i just want a reliable 500whp motor

as of rite now im looking at the buschur 2.3l built short block w/stg3 head or a sbr 2.4l built short block & built head

i was hoping to get some good info between these two short block before i buy but theres not any out there, anyone that has any experience with both these motor please help me make a good choice

John

we really need a 4g63 to 4g64 swap thread pinned to the top!

from what i gather they use the same oil pump, 4g63 water pump with a 4g64 gasket and a spacer. 4g64 timing belt, 4g64 head gasket.

timing cover and all that, i have no clue. someone fill in the blanks please!

I am currently building my 2.4L high compression motor on E-85 using the FP Black. I will be using this car for road racing and autox/ daily street driving.

Everything is the same as the 4g63 except that the 4g64 has a taller deck.

The 4g64 uses all of the same parts as the 4g63. The 4g64 block is plug-n-play into the Evo.

The 2.4 is what i'm going with when I build my motor, I have a couple friends with 2.4 and 2.1L from Slowboy and they make sick power and are very happy with them.

4G64 has a larger bore.

STD 4G63 = 85mm
STD 4G64 = 86.5mm

4G64 has a 6mm taller deck, so you can run 3mm longer con rods on the same compression height pistons, and same stroke as you would in the 4g63... giving you a better rod to stroke ratio... which will make your ish last longer and rev higher.

I'm also currently building my 10:1 2.4L Long Rod w/ 156mm rod and 87mm bore. It should have no problem reving 8.5k all day long. Honestly you can make a 2.4L more rev happy than a 2.3L for a lot less money. The 4G64 block is the way to go.

The other thing you may be interested in is the 4G64 block with a 94mm crank 87mm bore (long rod motor like the 2.2GSC 1.7r/s or 2.3RR from AMS...) You would have a 2.2L that revs like the 2.0
