Grinding Issues

Well first off I would like to say that I have searched all over this forum for something that would relate to this but nothing is coming up on the good side.

First
My problems are 2nd and 5th gear. When I am going from 1st gear to 2nd gear, it will not go in properly. This only happens when I am under WOT and shifting decently fast into 2nd, but nothing to fast because I am scared to break something. It weird because it drives perfect under I am under WOT.

Second
My second issue is that if I do a forth gear pull up to like 5500 rpm and try to put it into 5th gear it will make a grinding noise. It will go in fine but you can hear it and feel the grind as you are shifting into the gear. Even if I do a forth gear pull and then just let off and put it into neutral and wait a second then try and put it into 5th, it still proceeds to grind.

The car drives great except for these two problems that only happen when the car has a load on it. The car has only 11500 miles on it. I purchased it when it has 5500 miles on it from a respected dealer. The car is not driven that often at all and most of the time is driven very casual.

I have been thinking lately about ordering amsoil's for my transfer case, rear diff and transmission. I was going to remove the resrictor pill and replace the clutch lines with stainless steel braided lines and a hard lower line. I have also been told to adjust the clutch.

Please leave your feedback, thanks.

I doubt its a bad clutch because its really only a 2nd gear issue. It never slips or anything related to a clutch going bad. I have not had any signs of a failing clutch. Im thinking what I standed in my original post would help significantly

weird. my problem lately is i get a little "snick" when i go into gears cold. fine when warm, and fine at wot. is it an aftermarket or stock clutch? sometimes i notice i lift off the pedal a little early. i'm not sure why i have been doing this lately. i'm at 66000 miles on the stock clutch. it should be under warrantee still right? good luck.

i noticed the 2nd gear grind in my 5 spd IX after replacing stock tranny fluid with amsoil. It happens only when cold but after a few miles, it shifts like butter. I just skip 2nd gear and go to third when the trans is still cold. I've also noticed that when I depress the clutch rapidly/aggressively, shifting into 2nd gear is normal. I suspect that the restrictor plate in the clutch line could be restricting flow or fluid transfer. I dont powershift or slam into the gears at all.

I vote for bad synchros, its hard to tell, or say anything untill you take it apart.

Well I know what bad synchro's feel like and this does not feel like bad sync's. How does lockout work, and what type of repair do you have to do for it?

I will try and adjust the clutch and do the restrictor pill removal and tranny fluids.. see what happens

If you do the restrictor pill removal, you might want to replace the stock clutch line with a braided stainless steel line. i hear that it can flex a lot! it might be something to consider since you are doing the work anyway.

Same prob man, 2nd only happens if i slam it in above 7k. Now 5th it doesnt matter at what rpm im at. its how quick you try to throw it in. Its the synchros. 5th gear is known for doing that. Shep offered double synchro for 5th, i dunno if he still does. I ran the ACT when i had all these grinds..
