Diff or tranny?

I went on a road trip in my evo this weekend, put about 500 miles on in 1 day. About half way through the trip i started to get a whing noise under acceleration and deceleration. Then loud whining noises in 1st and 2nd gear between 4000-5500 rpm. I let the car sit for 4-5 hours. Then got back in and started back on the highway, no loud whining but the mild whining under accel and decel. Later that same day it was fine, no noise. Then tried to launch (playin with another evo) and a extremely loud whining sound started. I immediatly let off and coasted, the sound faded to a mild whine within the next few miles. Anyone know whats going on? It comes and goes and just started during this road trip.

Everytime i take my car into the dealership something is different/wrong or making noise. I hope there is a simple fix i can do myself.

Any ideas?

Many people have said that the tranny makes noise under accel and decel, but I have no idea what else it could be. Have you checked your fluid levels? Sorry for no help......

Just your average AWD noises. AWD cars are noisy, plain and simple. Putting some high quality gear oil (Redline) in your transfer case/rear diff also helps the noise. I'm having mine done with my clutch as we speak so I can verify this when i get my car back
