Exdy stage 1 issues?
Well i can get the car to not "chatter" but im super slow taking off from a light or whatever. Im learning how to deal with the clutch already and i can pretty much get it to not chatter but it is still "chattering" a lot when i try to go a little faster.
Chattering and studdering are different. Chattering is just clutch noise, which to a point, is normal. Even studdering (vibrations) can be a normal occurrence. My clutch is now free of both (:
i just got an ACT HDSS clutch and had stock flywheel resurfaced. when taking off in first i feel the car vibrating but only in first. also when i downshift and let up on the clutch i feel the same thing. just needs breaking in i hope...
I'll write about my experience w/ this clutch since I just installed it.
I have the Exedy Stage 1 (non-hd pp) w/ a full face disc and exedy lightened flywheel (didn't weigh it, but it didn't feel much lighter than stock). I only have about 150 mostly city miles on the clutch so far. I live near a lot of hills, so the city miles have truly been some good city miles.
Initially, the clutch chatter was really bad. But it seems to be getting better as I put more miles and heat cycles on it. It's definitely a lot harder to drive on hills w/ the chatter.
The one main thing that bothers me about the clutch is the smell. It seems to generate a smell every time I take off going up a decent hill. That can't be a good sign for clutch wear. I'm really hoping it's just from breaking in and will eventually go away. If the chatter and smell goes away, I'll be happy w/ the clutch.
Pedal effort is only slightly heavier than stock. I lubed all the moving parts on the tranny input shaft, throwout bearing, fork, and slave cylinder.
I've also adjusted my clutch pedal several times as the engagement point has moved higher as the clutch has broken in.

UPDATE: My car officially does nothing. =( So basically i was driving then i herd kind of a grinding maybe rubbing sound and the car wouldn't come out of gear finally got it out of gear and then it wouldn't go back in to any gear pulled off to a parking lot then pushed the pedal in to put it in gear wouldn't go in gear and pedal would not come back up. turned car off then back on pedal was still down pulled it up by hand and pushed it back down and it started working again but car still wont go in gear. Turned car off put car in gear tried to start car but cars wants to roll as soon as u turn the ignition on. Cant seem to get the car to do anything had to tow it home. so far just a bad bad situation with this clutch if thats what it even is........i thought maybe clutch/master slave cylinder but fluid is good i bleed it before i drove it after the install..... i'm completely lost.
sounds like an install issue. you've been hearing noises since the install, got progressively worse, and you kept driving it, which probably turned into a bigger issue now. that sucks. the only thing left to do is take it apart, and HOPE you didn't damage the trannie. i'm not sure the clutch was even the issue. but now it's gotta be toasted, so you can get another clutch. i hope it works out for you. i was looking at this clutch after hearing about the act horror stories, but now i gotta reevaluate the situation.
Well i haven't herd any noises since install so thats why i kept driving it. It has only made a noise once. but it did shake like mad. Im pretty sure its the install but the shop is 100% confident they did it correctly so needless to say i wont be taking it back to them ill either do it myself or take it elsewhere.
UPDATE: Turns out the shop didn't loctight anything and every single bolt backed out except one. Long story short the clutch is destroyed as well as my flywheel so i have to get something else. And well since this thread i'm thinking about not doing the exedy stage 1 again. I was looking at vividracing.com and apparently the clutchmaster stage 3 is the stage 2 so i'm thinking about getting the stage 3 does anyone have anything to say about this clutch??????

Ya i wish but they don't want to take blame. And I don't have time to fight with them about it i already ordered a clutchmasters stage 3 and a fidanza aluminum fly which is better than what i had to start with just sucks that im buying this stuff again in less than 2 months. I about cried when i looked at how clean the toasted flywheel was.
