Exdy stage 1 issues?

So i purchased the exedy stage one clutch kit and fly wheel. im somewhat at a loss for words on whats going on with it right now. it drives fine and is not slipping at all however from a dead stop (not launching) when i try to take off the cars seems to want to just fall apart. everything is shaking and it sounds really bad and feels even worse. i took it back to the mechanic who installed it and he said it was just clutch chatter but i have never experienced chatter like this before but to be fair i have never put a clutch in an awd car either. does anyone know if this is normal or not? the mechanic said it will go away in tiem just needs to be broken in and the jumping as seemed to gotten a little better but still its a horriable feeling i feel like im killing my car. has anyone had anything like this happen before? my main concern is am i doing any other damage really if its normal thats fine but i dont want to mess anything up. and like i said it runs and drives perfectly fine just when im trying to go from a dead stop it hopps really ugly. any help would be great guys thanks.

How many miles are on the clutch? I put in the same clutch and it wasnt pleasant to go from a dead stop either but not as bad as you describe. Took mine a couple hundred miles to break in..then I blew a synchro I didnt change the flywheel though..

i just put a 6 puck (i know its not the same) in mine and its kinda doin the same thing, mine makes a terrible groaning noise when i take off. I was told that it would go away in time. Ive only driven about 400 miles on mine so far, and it has already gotten progressively better since i got it back. Good Luck

Go do a studderbox launch!

The stage one should feel just like stock.

So im thinking i'm going to call exedy and ask them what they think. My mechanic drove it and told me it was just chatter but like i said i really don't think this could be chatter as bad as it is. I may be wrong but if i am then i can honestly say i'm not to pleased with this clutch. I would have thought only being a stage one it would be almost the same as stock. Perhaps i should have gotten this what do you guys think? http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...cat=113&page=1

I have the same clutch, but my problem is a bit odd too.

Original when I first got it install, as I ease off the clutch to engage and go from a dead stop, it would cause alot of vibration (seems like it will stall). Now....13k miles clutch is still strong, and vibration is not as bad. Really sucks up hill, but clutch is still strong! I will be getting ACT next, after this experience.

I haven't tried an extended rod, never thought of it anyways. But with as many mileage I put on it already, im just about to change clutch anyways. But its a pretty bad experience

I don't see how that rod will help you out. All it does is gives you more adjustment range to make sure the clutch is fully disengaging. The problem you are describing has more to do with the engagement itself. I have an Exedy Stage 2 and it's pretty grabby/chatty when cold, but after a few starts it's fairly smooth. I'd say give it time and drive it 1000 miles or so. If it's still that bad, it might be time to take it out and inspect it.
