850R guy chime in I need you thought...

My AMS 37r recently blow up so with all the hype about the 850r I purchased one. Keep in mind my comments are based on my initial thoughts as I have not totally dialed in or dyno'd the 850r:

1. The compressor looked much smaller than the 37r (5mm)
2. At 82% duty cycle on my boost controller I would register 32-33 psi on the old P67 (37r). On the 850r running the same duty cycle I now get 23 psi. I am assuming this is due to the smaller compressor.
3. It appears in order to get to 39 PSI where I was running my old setup I would really have to push this turbo.
4. On my old setup 39 PSI equaled 85% duty cycle on the boost controller. I am sure in order to get 39 PSI from this turbo I would need to run 92-95% duty.

Now the questions and concerns:

1. How long will this turbo last pushing it at 95% duty? My 37r gave up running 85% for about 10 runs…
2. Is this turbo too small for my setup 2.0 with a drag manifold? In order to run 39 PSI (like old setup) I would have to push this puppy.
3. Am I better off going to a 6765 BB for my setup?

PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHT I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM THOSE THAT RUN THE 850R.

Not to be a smartass, but i think it may be time to step up to a 40r. They are much more durable.

I can't vouch for them in high boost on the street, but I'm pretty sure it will do great at the track because your not holding it for more than 10 sec's .

Highway boost kill's them turbo's very fast.

Damn, I didn't know these turbo's were like that? how are precisions turbo's for longevity? As we know honeywell(garett) are the best for ball bearing/ journal bearing?

are the ams series turbo's ball bearing?(i'm thinking not)

There has got to be a reason these turbo's are failling, it is not normal at all to have sharkbite's unreliability

You have a boost leak or some other problem going on..... This doesnt sound right at all. I have been running my 850R at 38-39psi everyday for a good 6-7K miles worth of daily driving. And once i go to a .82 back side i plan to run higher boost levels.

BTW I also do ALL my races on the highway to top of 4th gear... No failure yet.

I might consider a trade for a 6765 DBB turbo. I think before I do any trades I should at minimun dial in this puppy and see what it will do.

Try 5th gear on a 4.11 final drive and then get back to me
