like others have said, it will reduced rotating mass, thus generally improving acceleration/deceleration. A lighter flywheel will not dampen the crank motion as much, which can cause a rough idle.

Depending on your skill level and the weight of the new flywheel, it could improve shifting or make it more difficult.

An engine that revs a bit quicker will be easier to rev match, in my opinion. If it revs too fast, you might need to shift quicker.

The main benefit to a flywheel is you will have something to bolt the crankshaft to on one side and your clutch to the other side.

Really??? ever gone to the track?? This would be why a scatter shield is required on cars running faster than 12.99

I have witnessed first hand it happening on a friends car. Flywheel exploded cut through almost everything in the engine bay and only reason it didnt go through the firewall was because it hit a decent size bolt. You could see the indentation in the head of the bolt. People have been killed by this. stock flywheel is pretty heavy and spinning at some times 9k rpm..do the math = a ton of damage.

It literally took 15 minutes to pull the motor because everything was cut to pieces and destroyed.

if it only took 15 minutes to pull it, i'd say it would have fallen out in 20

the only time i have heard of that happening is after someone "lightened" a stock one.

It happens even in the non racing world...can't say I've seen it on an evo, but I've seen flywheels break all around the mounting bolts...could imagine if this happened at high rpm... the result would be shrapnel.
