Question Cams? 264, 272

Hey I'm doing some planning for the spring time and i was woundering whats the deal with the cams? This is my first car that i'm going to do some serious moding to and I was woundering the difference between the 264, 272? What is the theory behind the cams? Also, I know they are well in the block and really need someone to install them. Anyone who had them installed what pricing did you get?

Thanks!

Well the cams are not in the block, they're in the head, and just under the valve cover. the 264 and 272 are the duration designations. There are a few specs on cams it's best to get familiar with; lift, duration, overlap. look up on yahoo automotive camshaft specifications and what they mean.

More simply put in the Evo's case, most everyone is finding the 264 cams work very very well.

the 264 cams (i have these) are easy to drive with, are not lopey and are very drivable. the 274's are basically race cams, so they are VERY lopey, and driveability suffers quite a bit. 264's are good for 30 hp, and 274's are good for probably 50+
