different type of egt temp ??

i have searched and searched and i have found the average egt temp for most evos. my question is what makes it go TOO low. start up is around 1000 to 1150 F but after warms and even on some WOT pulls....i dont see anything above 650 and usually idles as low as 450. new sensor?? to much fuel cooling the sensor?? exhaust leak?? any help would be great guys

You can do a comparative test if you can get a hold of a Fluke digital multimeter featuring a temp function and hook it up to your sensor. This way you can isolate as to whether it is either a gauge or sensor malfunction. Then you can proceed from there.

Depending on where specifically on the runner you have tapped into the exhaust manifold, the cast iron can be fairly thin allowing only for one or two threads of thread depth. If the sensor itself is loose, this can lead to the type of problem which you have described.

It may be the sensor(thermocouple) itself. A high quality thermocouple is available from TRE on their website. Your thermocouple may be defective or the tip of it may not protrude down far enough into the exhaust gas stream, or as I said before it may be loose and in need of retightening.

Once fully warmed up my car sits at 1000-1200F @ idle, 1200-1400F @ hwy cruise, and peaks around 1600-1650F @ WOT. This is with a Defi D-Series gauge and TRE EGT probe. I feel these are normal values.

Do they still have these? I remember them from my DSM days, but couldn't find it on the web site anymore. I was in a pinch, got a cheapie, but I still want a TRE probe.

Doesn't look like they do I haven't been able to find any other decent probes like it so when my current one goes bad I have no idea what I'll do.

Thumbs up

My readings w/my sensor connection probe in the #1 runner, Défi EGT gauge:
~500°C at idle
~700°C at 65mph hwy cruise
~810°C WOT runs
The sensor connection probe is built slightly better than the old TRE probes IMO.
