Unless you treat the gears (shot peening, cryo, wpc, whatever) you are not increasing the strength of the metal. The REM reduces friction from what I understand, and does not increase strength. While "built" 5 speeds may handle higher loads better, they are still using OEM gears and Shep (from what I know) is not a fan of shot peening or cryo.

This Shep 6 speed will actually be built with stronger gears for 3, 4 and 5.

If the 6 speed already has wider 1 through 3 gears, wouldn't it make more sense to strengthen 4, 5 and 6 instead of 3, 4 and 5? I like cruising in 6th and putting the pedal to the metal so to speak!!!!

I think Shepard's goal was to increase the strength of the gears that will receive the most abuse racing....3, 4 & 5. Also, the new FD lengthens the gears and kind of addresses the issue. 6th gear is a cruising gear, not a racing gear

If it's not a problem in the 5 speed, why would it be an issue in the 6th speed?

Ever since I bought my car new shifting first to second was really tricky. Half of the time it felt like it grinded a tiny bit engaging into second unless I either

1 - really babied it at low rpm

or

2 - was driving rather agressive and let it rev past 3k before shifting to 2nd

Just being normally gentle and shifting into second around 2K was/is tricky. Been this way for 18K miles.

In my experience, that's a transmission fluid issue, not a gear issue. I switched to Castrol SynTorq LT from the OEM Super DiaQueen at 12,000 miles and haven't had 2nd gear notchiness ever since.

Don't have any experience with the AMSoil stuff. I had no reason to use anything else after the Castrol solved my grinding/notchiness problem.

Here is more info on it if you're interested:

I don't want to get I to a pissing match with Mr. Amsoil on here again but when I when from royal purple to Amsoil my 4th gear started grinding at high rpm up & down shifts...I hated it...I have BG fluid in there now & almost no grinding at all...much smoother...

I've been talking to shep for the past 2 years about this... 90% of what you guys mention about his test cars, power figures, runaway tester that sold his car, etc... are true

Subscribed.

It's only a short matter of time before it comes out. Last news I heard from him was that 25 are being mass produced at the moment and pricing will be released. Currently I think he's on vacation. As for a date, I have no idea. I'll keep everyone informed. I expect the same if anyone knows anything new.

How many miles do you have on the car, what type of driving do you do, and what power are you putting out? MR correct?
