Front Diff
Front Diff
My front diff just went out exactly one week after my new rmr 6 puck clutch install. Are there any problems with the front diff? I dont see how mine went out so fast. I have three mods clutch, mbc, and s-afc and 8k miles. Does anyone know how much it is to fix. Would it be under warrenty?
Thanks for any info

well the first problem is you installed a serious clutch, which is going to shock the tranny/front diff way more then normal. Typically on a high end car the tranny's are build to take abuse, on most of mitsubishi's car the transfer cases (ie center diff) is known to let go first. There is an extreme load being placed on it, if you rev the motor up high and drop the clutch a few times and the clutch isn't going to give, and the tires don't wanna give, then whats next in line to give..... center diff. Our center diff is made with clutches, not mechanical parts like the STi or JDM evo's so it's not going to handle abuse as well...
Forget ralliart, people don't understand that that company is designed and focuses mainly on RALLY performance, if they do have a center diff it's most likely going to be designed for a JDM evo as well as off road use... Call up CUSCO or KAAZ (sp?) and see waht they have to offer...

Actually on DSM's the center diff and front diff are in the tranmission the transfer case is totally seperate piece. The EVO has a transfer case that has a front diff and the viscious coupling in it (part of the center diff). The US EVO does not have a clutch style center diff, it uses a viscious coupling to transfer torque. The front differential is open on our EVO's, which is probably stronger than the Torsen style I just tried and broke. Kaaz would be good to check into, they use clutch style diffs.

Right now the dealer is the only one who sells the front diff. Also you can not just buy the front diff because the dealers don't sell it buy itself. You must buy the whole transfer case which is close to 2 grand.

if u launch with the stock clutch it's no prob.cause it will slip.that clutch u installed will grab!
and when that happens....something else has to slip(give some leeway) in order for everything to be ok.otherwise, something will break.
it happens alot actually.transfer cases are the most popular to go first
